Hey, I'm looking for a buddy of mine, he's about my height, except I'm way better looking.
Nice to meet you all.

Pleasure to meet you
(when shaking hands with a woman, either slowly brush my fingers down her hand when breaking contact, or see how long she wants to hold the handshake. Something I learned from Lance Mason)

When I introduce myself to a group, the words usually don't matter. I can literally just stand near a group for a bit, and eventually I become a "member" of that group.
If I do say anything, it's something situational. So I'll listen to the group for a few sentences, and then I'll respond to a guy/girl in a way that fits. Like at my dad's bar last week, some girl was talking about her shitty phone, so I "joined" the group by teasing her about her phone and mentioning how my iphone's better. That's all it took. As soon as I mentioned the iphone, I had like 3 guys and 2 girls agreeing with me and then they went into detail about how the iphone's awesome compared to this girl's shitty nokia (or whatever she had). Then we played some darts and some foosball together as a group.
Openers don't matter. The vibe is what matters. Establish a friendly vibe with even one guy in the group, and you're good to go. Establish that vibe with the girl, and you're golden. Just make sure to establish that vibe with the overall group, and you'll be fine. You don't have to say a single word (you can literally just follow them around), and they'll still usually "accept" you as a member of the group.
In other words, this post is shitty because it assumes that you need a really good opener. That's usually not how shit works. You technically need to make a good first impression, but it's not cut-and-dry like that. You can make a horrible first impression and still end up fucking a girl- or, you can make an awesome first impression and still go home empty-handed.

This. Thanks for articulating that. Vibe is a good enough term. I feel like as soon as I start thinking about what I am going to say/do with only the language part of my brain I am done. I can get anxious easily and I can just read people's response to me as awkward.
And if I am understanding you right, I do the same thing where you just kinda hang back a bit until you are struck by something interesting. You might call it the intuitive subconscious part of the brain but it usually works. Don't worry about it not working in the moment, that will affect your disposition. You can reflect on it later if you don't get a good response, in a non judgemental way.

I'm British, and a friend of mine (who's a natural) once walked up to a girl in a bar and said "My name's (name). Drop your pants." It worked. Just go to some of the sluttier parts of Britain.

Nice to meet you, first time ever I'm not the hottest person in the room.

"Hey, you guys looked like fun, I had to come meet you. I'm Alex."
Sometimes I go with "I thought you guys had great style" or if its a single girl "I thought you looked stunning", instead of the "look like fun" part.

No offense at all, but its common knowledge that commenting straight away on looks might be a problem. Just saying.
[–]scrubzor 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Turn off your social conditioning, that is poor common knowledge. I open with this all the time, and rarely get blown out. I go with 'stunning' or 'adorable', and usually its well received. If i said "smoking hot" it might not go over so well. calibration is necessary obviously, not gonna comment on the looks of a 10. I'm in the camp you can open with anything as long as you have total belief in what you are saying will work.

It's not commenting on looks; he's commenting on the situation he sees. It's different than saying I like your blazer.

Opener doesnt matter dude. I just wrote a big response but my computer died, so I'll go into it later. Just realize that your paramaters are shitty, and it's usually not how approaching works. I can say retarded shit and still fuck a girl.
Hey! You guys having a good time tonight?
[–]mrbrinks 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hi. pause You seem interesting and I wanted to meet you. cheers
Not very difficult.

"Hey"
In a bar: Hey, how are you? Having a good time?
In a non-natural pickup place: Hey, how are you? [follow up with natural question related to surrounding: ie; bus in the morning: going to work?, food-shop on a friday: having friends over tonight?, liquer store: going out tonight? etc...]
simple questions. I think you're "vibe" is more important though. A confident posture, smile and eye-contact.
[–]jetter23 -5 points-4 points-3 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
You people are all retarded, and the very fact this question exists proves the nubness of you guys in the PUA community.
It's all about what you AREN'T saying. Your eyes, smile, and body language do 90% of the convo for you. You could be talking about birds shitting on cars and she would have no idea if you do it right.
That being said, this place makes me LOL
[–]Seduceher 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
100% agreed. This place is getting run by the average and the mundane. You can tell by the downvotes.
