There's still gentleman out there who know how to treat a lady.
It's still too early to tell if he's a keeper, but at least the date was great and I didn't have to deal with any LVM BS!

Nice!

Definitely! He asked for a second date when he dropped me off, and this is why he's going to get one.

Don't get into cars with these men! Not until at least 3 months has passed, if that. Cars can keep you trapped during an uncomfortable situation, and you need to keep your address private.

Agreed. Better safe than sorry.

Do you drive/ take transit to meet them? What's your expectation there?
[–]staywiththecrownFDS Newbie6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When I didn't have a car (and before Uber), I took public transit and/or used a taxi. Because of that, I made sure to only have dates that were feasible to get to and made sure the dates weren't too late for me to get home. I have a car now, so that definitely makes it easier.

Talking about sex in any capacity on a first date is a no no. Even if it’s to assert boundaries, it still comes across as potentially tacky. You don’t lay your heart and rules on the table, you make them work for it and slowly reveal things in time once HE has raised it. Otherwise what you do is tell a man exactly how to act and what to say to manipulate you.

I'm not the most patient person, and that's something I need to work on. How could he potentially manipulate me? What should I watch out for?
[–]Crushed_AvocadoFDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You’re just showing your hand way too early, and now he knows how to act to trick you into a sense of trust and intimacy, so he can get what he wants.
There’s no need to say you don’t have casual sex, the way you carry yourself should SCREAM that you’re exclusive with your time and body, and have high self esteem that doesn’t require male sexual validation.

You chose a date for the next day? Listen Queen, you did great and he seems nice, but it might be better for next time to plan just a bit further in advance. Don't want to seem/ to be too available.
[–]Ketolove604FDS Newbie[S] 23 points24 points25 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
True, I thought about that too! However, I was getting stir crazy with Covid staying at home :)
Btw, what is the etiquette with availability? Do you let guys know you have other suitors/are going out on other dates?
[–]kwalden2FDS Newbie43 points44 points45 points 5 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
Don't mention other men outright, that is tacky. He shouldn't be asking either. I know covid makes it tough lol, and I've been stir crazy too. I say 2-3 days notice because it's better to not be stir crazy, and to give him time to plan something properly, maybe make a reservation and a backup. Idk how old you are. I'll be blunt, if you are in high school, reservations aren't needed for grabbing sandwiches or ice cream. I'd go easier on you there, but get into the habit of planning ahead now even if that's your circumstance. 2 days gives yourself enough time to give yourself a manicure and a new blouse or whatever. For a very busy businesswoman, maybe even a full week's notice isn't asking too much. In this case, he asked you what day was good for you. All you had to do was name a day with more notice. I understand you were looking forward to meeting with a real human, but he's not your friend; he is a romantic interest. You're not just hanging around to entertain each other when bored, and he should get that message.

I'm in my mid-30s, and he's in his mid-40s. I've always been in long term relationships so dating is new to me. Thankfully, the texts were yesterday and we went on the date tonight.
He brought a nice box of gourmet chocolates to give me beforehand, picked me up, took me to a fancy seafood restaurant, tons of compliments, and asked me for another date next Friday. It's definitely too early to tell what's what, and I hope it's not a love-bomb situation.
During dinner, I straight up said I don't have casual sex, and I do not sleep with anyone I'm not in a committed relationship with. I also said it's not hard for most women to get lots of male attention, so we need to be more selective. He asked for another date, so we'll see.

Sounds promising so far! Good for you both. Follow your instincts on love bombing or not. Stay safe. From what i hear, it just sounds like a good date. He may be almost strict his politeness, but that may be his personality, and a lot of HV couples can operate that way. Way to state your sexual boundaries too, I'm v. impressed! He already asked for a second date, so was that planned more in advance? If so, feel free to proceed as long as your instincts tell you to. Sounds like a fun time, enjoy your time being wooed for now :-)

Telling a man on the first date that you don't sleep with people you don't know isn't FDS. You don't need to tell men you're not going to sleep with them. And your sexual choices are none of their business. It's tacky to say that out right and also unnecessary. It's his job to treat you like that's how you already operate. If he doesn't treat you right, all on his own, then he is low value and he has failed the test.

I'm terrible at testing people, but that's a good point.
[–]Phoenix__Rising2018Ruthless Strategist26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's always better to be quiet on some matters and just let the man reveal himself and his intentions. I know what you mean about being bad at testing people. I used to be like that. Now I'm more strategic.

He's a decade older than you? That's a red flag right there.
Edit: interesting that in being downvoted when this sub is the one that says no huge age gaps.

Not quite 10 years. I think this is a personal preference because I prefer older men and always have.

I second that. Always meter interactions. Plan dates in advance. Five days is a good shot. See him 1x a week then gradually move it up to 2x. If you become too available he will get bored. Make him chase. Continue be nice, show interest, accept his dates, but space them out. Good luck, seems promising!

He didn’t ask where you live or insist to pick you up. That’s refreshingly cognizant of him.
