I can't deal with apartment living because landlords have proven to invariably be scumbags. Fortunately, I am cool with fixing a lot of stuff and understanding what needs to be done.
EDIT: I should clarify that earlier on I did have some decent landlords (though I still tend to regard apartment living as "hell"). More recently, they were a string of devils. I don't know. Maybe this part of the country is just bad that way.

For me it's the straight up cost. My mortgage is 530 bucks a month for 1000 sqft, a 24x24 polebarn shop and 2 acres of land. The cheapest apartment in the worst area here is almost 700$ and you have neighbors. I'd love the no string attached apartment, but the downsides are just to great.

Yeahhhh it's a low cost of living area, BUT it's a LOW EARNING area as well. Best plan is to make your money then come here when you can make a 1500 or so a month from investment. Then you can get a regular job and still be a able to save and grow your life plan.

I live in a shed at the moment - I would be more inclined to have a house if I had the money but mainly I'd just like a driveway and a garage so I can work on my projects and have a workshop. I only actually need a single room as living space and the other thing I'd want to avoid is neighbours because you never know how its going to work out. You might have some right nightmare neighbours.
Where I live at the moment I just have a bunch of mostly empty industrial units for company. During the lockdown I think I was the only person for about a mile in any direction - it's 10 minutes drive to my local town. Honestly living out here for the past few years and only seeing my landlord a handful of times I have lost my ability to deal with mainstream soyciety. I would rather live on the road in a van than an apartment.

I built my home since I needed an anchor in my life. After years of being a truck driver, the anchor is greatly desired. A place to call home. A place you can go that is yours. A place where you can draw a line, tell everyone else to fuck off, store your possessions, do whatever you want, a micro-universe that you are the master of.
The drifting in the wind lifestyle was good and I can't judge others for going either way. Some events in one's lifetime might come up to tell one to slow down take a breather, sit this one out, that will induce a lifestyle change.

Men only travel to get pussy from their girl who never shuts up. I have had one holiday my full 30 years on earth. Ex made me take it in 2012 to Byron bay and it was cheap and great. However, I haven't needed or thought of travelling now.
All the WW2 sites I would want to see when I'm fifty will be pulled down by then, and I'll have to stay visiting Russia and Poland, but that's the only reason I would travel. Money, food, music, art. It's all waste to me. Permanent sites and history and knowledge are a reason to affordably get on a plane.
Plus lady, why won't THE WOMEN WE FREED BREED ENOUGH TO REPLACE THE SOCIETY THAT FREES THEM?
