Hello Ladies,
This is my first time posting here, and I need y'alls advice.
In my last relationship, my man complained that I was too masculine, an absolutely fair complaint. I had a very bro way of speaking ("hey man, wassup?" or "nah dude" or generally talking kind of crass). And it bleeds out in the energy I give off. Prior to this relationship, I had another train wreck of a relationship that ended in large part to the fact that I took on such a masculine role (running the household, making all the decisions, etc), that I lost all respect for my man and was quite unhappy. Even more recently, I was turned down by a guy I like. He might not have been able to really describe it, but I'm willing to bet it was that masculine energy that put him off. When we were initially considering dating, I was much more feminine, in an attempt to correct the mistakes I made in previous relationships. But after a few fights with my mom, I couldn't recapture that feminine energy.
While masculine, aggressive behavior is admirable in men, it's really obnoxious in women. And in my experience, I've attracted some very weak men with my borderline ballbuster personality. So I'm coming to you guys for help with balancing out my personality. I don't want to simply wear a mask of femininity, but truly feel that feminine energy within myself, consistently.
My biggest obstacle is when I get angry or stressed. The masculinity comes out like a beast with fangs. I get very aggressive and dominant, as opposed to assertive. And the worst part, is that the masculine aggressive energy lingers. But even besides that obstacle, I struggle to find my femininity on the regular basis. I don't have a chip on my shoulder about men or the patriarchy- in fact, I deeply admire many of the guys in my life. However, I take up masculine activities- cars, MMA, BJJ. And my workplace is predominantly masculine. I like my job, I like my hobbies, I wouldn't trade them in to inauthentically become more feminine. I'm sure part of my problem is low-key misogyny on my part. I have an awful relationship with my mom, I'm quite ashamed of her shrew-behavior, and I've never had a good role-model for being a woman.
So how do y'all handle stress and anger like a lady? What can I do to be more of a lady? Who do I look up to, what do I am for, how do I feel like more of a woman? Can anyone share a story of how they got out of a similar mindset?
