During the subsequent inevitable Twitter storm (during which "feminists" threatened to "rip me apart", called me a "piece of s---" and a "brainless bimbo" in an incredibly sisterly fashion) a male tweeter calmly pointed out several historical instances where negotiation had resulted in progression. As a result, he was publicly called a "pendantic misogynist" by the mob.

Stay classy, girls.

In Britain in 2014, girls are entitled to the same education as boys, they can then go on to get any job they want and be paid the same as a man. Not only is this not true for millions of women throughout the world, it wasn't true for our foremothers. I'd much rather say to young women, "these rights were hard won. Go and make the most of them" than "no wonder you can't fulfil your potential! Men whistle at you and there are boobies in the newspaper, you poor helpless little things".

If I could take anything from this article...

BIG feminism is losing touch with the women in the west, it never really captured the majority of women's hearts and minds, in the first place. The differance now is more women are willing to speak against BIG feminism, instead of playing lip service to it's tenets or remaining silent. Women that know men and boys know the central claims of BIG feminism are at odds with reality.

I like the one comment she highlighted in responses to her that "men have had their voices heard too long, it's our turn" to be so damning for my opinion of feminists who believe that. Am I oppressing you? Did I make this system? No, then my voice is not being heard and you are trying to silence me for your own agenda. It's hypocrisy at it's finest and why feminism has such a darkness about it. You can't claim to want equality and then say my voice is not allowed because I am a man.

So this is a male-friendly article but even so we find in it:

Don't misunderstand, I'd consider myself a feminist

This is after she basically says that feminism means hating men ("feminism teaches women to see themselves as victims and men as perverts, bullies and misogynists").

And she supports the idea that females are better than males:

the types that are working to ensure we have an equal number of female MPs

But this is still a good article compared to where the feminist press is at.

More and more people are being turned off by the sexism espoused by modern feminism and are viewing it from the other side. It is a good thing I think

Hmm, I don't see anything wrong with her self-identifying as a feminist.

In her mind feminism is the same as equal rights.

A lot of people in controlling religions still think of themselves as members of those religions even after they leave, and even though they disagree with much of the religion itself.

It's just sort of an emotional inertia. Consider that for her whole life, she's been raised (most have actually) with the idea that feminism=equality, and feminism=good for everyone.

Even when faced with flat out evidence that it's not what she's been raised to believe, she's still going to fall back on that, because that's what she knows.

"I like your equal rights ideals, I do not like your feminists. They are so unlike your equal rights ideals."

Don't misunderstand, I'd consider myself a feminist and I'm all for structural changes which ensure equal treatment of the sexes - the types that are working to ensure we have an equal number of female MPs and laws to prevent female genital mutilation, for example.

Equal treatment. Then why only write "female genital mutilation". What about laws to prevent genital mutilation regardless of gender. (i.e. without the prefix of male/female)?

Women are disadvantaged in some ways in society - same as men in other ways. There's no reason to crucify her for labeling herself as a feminist in addition to being a humanist. Feminism has accomplished some awesome things in the world.

That doesn't mean that modern feminism is acceptable, but the label makes sense. Christina Hoff Sommers and Camille Paglia still consider themselves feminists too. For one, it gives them validity in the eyes of more reasonable feminists. For two, it subverts the insane feminists hijacking of the movement.

Reasonable feminists are great allies of the MRA, even if they make the mistake of labeling themselves as a cult member.
