I really , really think a lot of you need to take a step back here.

These survey results are interesting I guess and certainly not surprising in a lot of ways. Nevertheless , I live in China and I think a lot of you are forgetting something rather important.

This is China and in China the social contract between men and women still stands. Men treat women like ladies and women treat men like gentlemen. This is not a country full of Grrrrl Power witches. Actually , women here are quite happy to revel in their femininity.

So , coming from somebody who lives in the country in question , take my word for it : This is not directly applicable to us Westerners and our society.

Ummm, for those of you who seem to have forgotten, this is indeed a men's rights issue, because although it is absolutely true that men desire younger, attractive women, the men who engage in such behavior are reviled as sexist pigs preying on young, immature women, while the women who do this are seen as "you-go-girl" empowered women. Not to mention the fact that sex is renewable resource, while money isn't. If one of these women is able to marry and then divorce one of these men, she can potentially take almost everything he has, leaving him with nothing. Women, on the other hand, can have as much sex as they want with as many people as they want, and this ability is not affected by the termination of a relationship.

However interesting, this is not a men's rights issue.

Women are attracted to older men because older men have more to offer them in terms of what they seek in a relationship: Provision and protection. This is no different in China from in any other culture. It's always the man's responsibility to provide and protect. If that responsibility is written into law (quite likely), it is a men's rights issue, if not it's a men's issue.

A possible men's rights issue that is related to this would be the country's maintenance laws (alimony), divorce laws, married couples' property laws, and possibly custody laws which are ever-present when discussing divorce laws.

Wealthier. Key word. Wealthier. This is the most important thing, feminist or not. These chinese women just haven't been exposed to western style feminism that teaches them to deny that wealth is important to them while insisting that it be provided to them.

I believe it's relevant to men's rights because it implies that it is a man's duty to take care of a woman- meaning pay her bills, protect her, etc- and that a man who doesn't do that is somehow less mature, less worthy.

The article also implies that a younger man is less capable, without also implying that a younger woman is equally incapable.

I don't see a problem with marriages that have a big age difference. I'm in one- I'm 38, wife just turned 27. I don't see the age gap as a problem, so long as both spouses work hard to take care of each other. There must be reciprocity, both people must put in equal effort. Otherwise, a big gap in age would simply be a case of daddy issues run rampant.
