These people have probably been brought up on a steady diet of sitcoms, movies and tabloids since the day they were born. They ape the behaviour that they see on TV because that's what they believe is acceptable even expected. In 'TV land' if a man forgets his girlfriend's/wife's birthday/anniversary/acts like a 'pig' then a slap across the face is perfectly acceptable - disrespecting a 'lady' is not.

Not all young men are this brainwashed. I am teaching my son that what would be abuse if he did it to anyone else - whether male or female - is abuse when it's done to him, too. Everyone tells the girls that no one has the right to hit them... friends, family, even strangers. No one ever says the same thing to my son except me, and my husband. In fact, I've even had to fight the notion that it is okay at two different schools, and both the female teachers, and the other kids' mothers were completely irrational about their kids' behavior. And when I say irrational, the I mean irrational. One of them literally dropped down to the reasoning of an 8 year old.

I've seen plenty of fucked up women get very aggressively defensive over their abusive boyfriends/husbands. People who stay in abusive relationships are just as sick in the head as their abusive partners are.

Difference is, standing up to one's abuser is much, much more powerfully fostered by society in women than it is in men. This is why feminists are wrong when they bitch about women being treated like second-class citizens. Women have always come first, they've always been more valuable.

And then the conversation would be about how it's a mistake for us to hit each other.

I'm 6'6". If me and my partner started hitting each other it would get fucking ugly fucking quickly.

Long time lurker here, just made an account for this.

I got slapped around for not noticing that my ex girlfriend was wearing a new dress for me. As weird as it must sound, it took me a very, very long time to realize that I was being abused.

If this guy was anything like me, his girlfriend had probably groomed him for quite some time prior to this. You never really think to blame her for any of her outbursts after a while. It becomes very easy to believe that you're to blame when she breaks down crying.

I have to disagree with the other commenters here, this situation seems more like just a single case of an abusive relationship rather than him being brainwashed by society or something.

Not to say this isn't fairly accepted by society, as I'm sure if the genders were reverse he'd have been mobbed by the whole train, but this still seems more like just an abusive relationship to me.

This kind of thing really is a huge issue. When I was in freshman year, our school's resident drug-addled violent girl decided to get mad at me. I was a weak, short kid pre growth spurt at the time. I remember being in a headlock and having my windpipe constricted. I tried to lash out and kind of half-heartedly kicked her in the shin, which provoked a response of half my hair being torn out (I'm not kidding. I had long hair at the time and had to get it buzzed for that part to blend in). I ended up with a three week suspension for "improper conduct and violence against girls" or something of the sort. The rationale is that historically, women have had to suffer more violence and attacks than men, and need more defense, but honestly, they can be just as abusive and horrible as the worst of men can.

At that point she proceeds to slap me across the face (she was anti "drugs"... but loved her liquor)

yes, little boys and young men are brain washed from a young age to give special treatment to women... and to let them do what they want... and to let them act like a pethetic child and to suport them any ways.

as well as both genders are thought that women should have no accountiblity for there actions and have the rights of an adult but the burdens of a child.
