http://www.ihollaback.org/ is a group of websites, the most famous is for New York City

Mission

Hollaback is a movement to end street harassment powered by a network of local activists around the world. We work together to better understand street harassment, to ignite public conversations, and to develop innovative strategies to ensure equal access to public spaces.

How Hollaback! works

The explosion of mobile technology has given us an unprecedented opportunity to end street harassment—and with it, the opportunity to take on one of the final new frontiers for women’s rights around the world.

By collecting women and LGBTQ folks’ stories and pictures in a safe and share-able way with our very own mobile phone applications, Hollaback! is creating a crowd-sourced initiative to end street harassment.

Is /r/creepshots fundamentally different from ihollaback.org?

  • Both accept and encourage anonymous pictures
  • One encourages sexualization of the person without their knowledge
  • One encourages denouncing and labeling and charging of the person of various crimes without their knowledge

  • neither informs the target their picture has been taken, or that they have been labeled a criminal

  • ihollaback provides complete anonymity

  • ihollaback can be easily gamed and used for intentionally false accusations

  • ihollaback permits face pictures and encourages real world violence

I am pretty new to reddit, and only visited creepshots once or twice to see what the issues with creepshots were. I haven't visited ihollaback for probably a year so their policies may have changed.

But what is the real difference between creepshots and ihollaback?

Why is one a horrible corner of reddit and one a legitimate expression of women's needs to fight against street expression?
