I can't tell you how often I'm reminded of this every week. Several of my lecturers at unversity are self-identifying feminists who, no matter the actual topic, will constantly find a way to insert some comments about how women are always the victims and men are always the bad guys.

I don't actually have a problem with that (other than "being done" with women's rights is like "being done" with the war on terror or drugs). What I have a problem with is them interfering with men working on men's rights.

Men's rights were just as important fifty years ago as they are today. Accepting inequality/expandability, catering to/protecting women and taking shit in silence was just a big part of what masculinity was back then. Feminism was created as an extension of sexism and female privilege, not as a movement to fight it.

You know... I've always been wary of this kinda statement. It's like the plot twist in a book.

Person #1: I have a lot of problems, but I'll help you solve yours first. You'll totally do the same for me in the end, right?

Person #2: Sure! We'll work on your issues once we're done with mine!

And then Person #2 has everything and does nothing to help Person #1, because Person #1's problems really are a non-issue to Person #2.

I'm not saying that will happen. I'm just saying that, after reading many many books, that's what my brain thinks will happen...

It's actually the other way round -- men's rights should take precedence because in most areas we are doing worse than women. And for god's sake don't anyone waste my time by bringing up the Arab world.

Who decides what the stack of rights operations is? Who decides who gives that person authority? Why are we limited to only one issue at a time? Is there only one human being? etc. etc. etc.

This is similar to my response to first world problems.

My problems may be lesser than yours, they may stem from my good fortunes, they may only affect me because of my mistakes. They are still my problems, and I have the human right to want to make my situation better. If you interfere with that right to pursue happiness, you are as harmful as the person who would rape or murder someone. Let me handle my life as I see fit, as you handle your own in your own way.
