Feminism created this, and now they mock it, check out the comments.

More evidence that giving women what they think they want is a bad idea. Because many of them have no clue what they really want.

[–]TheUsualChaos 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that applies to most people though

[–]thingsarebad -4 points-3 points-2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

women moreso

[–]SlimThugga 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much. You want a man to cuddle and be lovey dovey, you got one, now you changed your mind? What the hell, media? It's really hard to accept the stereotype of some people just not knowing what the fuck they really want.

[–]iTroll_irl 8 points9 points10 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People see what they want to see in these groups of people. She wanted to notice something negative so she could publicly, emotionally masturbate in article form -- and get paid.

One tends to notice the [insert bad adjectives] men where the "just another young professional man" blends into the background.

[–]aloneinlove 6 points7 points8 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I couldn't read this article at all. Too much sexism and double standards for me to digest. I guess it's an article aimed at women so it's none of my business.

[–]TheUsualChaos 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it starts off that way....makes a little more sense towards the end

[–]Vexatious 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My favorite part is when the author complains about men sitting on trains with their iPhones out. Seriously? I don't have an iPhone, but it's called technology. You didn't see people in the 50s using iPhones because there were no iPhones not because they were too man to use one, let's be real now >>

[–]Hamakua 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, instead they read newspapers and books, and there was plenty of that going on in/on trains.

[–]jondiggity 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I thought it was funny that they have a photo of don draper and under it "what would don draper think of these laddish men"

First, Don Draper would call Demi Moore a whore for marrying such a young guy. Then, he'd probably be extremely surprised that there is a woman getting paid more than a man in the first place.

Using 60's men as an example for how men now should act is retarded. Women weren't exactly considered people back then. It'd be like saying what would Thomas Jefferson think of Jim Crow Laws?

He'd say "hey I own slaves, they don't deserve the right to vote you idiots"

Because those were the customs and norms of the times.

Using 60's men as an example for how men now should act is retarded

It's even more retarded than that. It's cause they are fundamentally attracted to these men, but are not realizing they are supposedly ideologically opposed to everything that they are.

Even abandoning morality or ideology all together, they can't get what they want, even if they knew what they wanted.

I just want to grab them and look right in the eyes of these misinformed women, and yell: "Oh, you mean want a 6'2" tall guy , top 99% Percentile intellect, ripped body, independently wealthy, large-ish cock, Emotionally available, Clean, Supportive, Loyal, perfect father, submissive to you, works hard, plenty of free time, spends that free time on you, sexually generous, educated, funny, who loves travel and animals, and asks nothing of you in return?

Don't get me wrong girls, I'm sure there's one out there. But you don't have the 'market value' to attract him, let alone keep him. Fucking bitches chasing non-existent (for the most part) cars, they wouldn't know what to do with one even if they caught it. Get real.

These types need their heads sorted out, and mister jon, i'm glad you see it too.

The scariest thing? In some cases policy-making, and laws, are dictated by these types. AHhhh! It freaks me out.

I'm not saying guys don't have misconceptions but ffs feminism + disney generation = fml.

And THAT is the part that kills me. "We want manly men, but manly men that will do whatever-the-fuck we tell them too!" You don't get to have your cake and eat it too, sister... take your pick.

Read more Jefferson.

[–]jondiggity 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, Jefferson was theoretically and idealistically opposed to slavery. But fact of the matter is that he owned many slaves, he slept with his female slaves and they bore children who, despite being technically white, were still his slaves. He also believed blacks were inferior to whites and only fought to end slavery so that he could ship them all back to Africa and have a whites-only society. But you're right, we should all strive to be more like Don Draper and Thomas Jefferson.

Again, you need to read more of him.

[–]logrusmage 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, I said nothing about draper, who is fictional.

[–]jondiggity 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

what specifically do you recommend i read? his memoirs? his philosophical papers?

[–]xatmatwork 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

No one’s saying everyone should conform to a gender stereotype

Oh, well, that's good I guess...

Dare I suggest it was largely because it recalled a time when we still acknowledged a gender divide? When women were women, and men were men.

They look like mother and son.

[–]n64mikey 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i normally just sit and fume at such things. However, the comments pushed me over the edge. I created an account STRICTLY to tell these ladies they are at fault for their own creation.

Sure it will be lost in a sea of vagina and estrogen, but they will read it. And it may speak to someone.

[–]Hamakua 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because there is one thing the choir of that article do best, and that is introspection, right? RIGHT?

[–]rabbitspade 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I grew up in the Seventies and Eighties, daydreaming of a future husband with an air of actor Robert Mitchum about him. But today’s baby-men need their women to provide a shoulder to lean on, not the other way around.

David Bowie, Freddy Mercury, Boy George, KISS to name a few... There is no golden age of machismo. As long as there has been men, there have been men pushing the boundaries.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I literally have no idea what this article is talking about. I have never seen this.

[–]Astronauts 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like more daddy issues to me. "Men aren't mature enough!" I'm sure they aren't. Maybe if you spent less time analyzing Hollywood deadbeats and creeps on the train you'd see that men, as a whole, are exactly the same as they've always been. According to this, the female ideal is someone strong and brave and willing to do anything for you. What was that about being mollycoddled?

[–]VandrandeDildo 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While I do think that many men are immature, so are women. And I don't know that widespread self-centered infantilism is a recent thing either. Certainly the use of technology or the way one sits is not an indication of one's maturity. I could barely stand to read the article.
