Bottom line--dads end up paying majority of the time. My biggest beef is there is no accountability. Is the money really going to support the child? No way of knowing.

Great point in the article, which I completely agree with, is expenses. Ok, lets assume you split, get divorced and go your separate ways. Won't she need housing, electricity, water, food, car, auto insurance, etc etc etc????? Amount needed is grossly over stated. It is the welfare mentality. Since I can get it for free, why not take it.

I admit it is slowly changing. But preconceived perceptions still exist. She splits, attorney files for child support so she can "survive". Meanwhile, as in the case of my brother-in-law, the dad has to move in with a relative (me) because he is broke and already works 2 jobs.

Child support laws are unfair in general, it just so happens that men are the main people getting screwed by them. What I find most fucked up is when people are still obligated to pay child support (or alimony) when the spouse they're paying the money to has remarried. At that point it becomes obvious it's not about helping anyone and the state is definitely benefiting from it. Either that or they just hate men.

$2,700 a month for a teenage daughter? Did the judge rule she must own only Prada shoes and Hermes handbags and Chanel suits? Does she take a helicopter to school every day? How on earth did the court order such an enormous sum for one kid?

Years ago I knew a guy who was paying child support and alimony and she never told him she got remarried (his kids were very young). He found out six months later and it took him almost a year to get a hearing to the alimony stopped and he did get orders for her to pay it back even after the judge called her out. To date, he never got a dime back. She was also royally pissed when the child support was reduced as well.

It isn't just child support that screws the males.

They're unfair to non-custodial parents in general. How the fuck is it that you can pay support for a child, your ex doesn't have to claim it as income, yet your ex gets the tax break for a dependent and you do not? That shit pisses me off to no end.

I'd like to see child support calculated evenly.

for instances, I have my kids 10 days per month, their mother has them 20. She has them 10 days more than I do, so I should be responsible to help out with half that cost - five days worth of expenses. If my child support of $800 is what it takes to cover 5 days, then that means we're assuming that it costs $4800 per month to raise the kids (which is more than we ever made when we were together). In my opinion a more realistic number to ensure that we're making equal contributions is to estimate the monthly cost say $2000 (which is really high imho - really it is significantly lower)... but we contribute half the agreed upon amount to an account from which we could withdraw 1/30 each day that we have custody of the kids - about $67 per day.

This wouldn't be perfect and I'm can think of many ways that it could be exploited, but at least it makes an effort to appear "fair".

The system is broken there is no doubt about it.

Woman are brainwashed to think that the moment they have kids the father is a cash machine. They can do whatever they want, and if they divorce, they will most likely get custody and unfair child support. This just makes things worse. I believe this is one of the reasons divorce rate is so high in America.

The child support system is broken and unfair. Just like every other government run program. The welfare of a child is the responsibility of the parents. To infringe on the liberty of a dad from the moral standpoint that it benefits the child(ren) is bogus. It is theft, plain and simple.

To all the people complaining about not having enough money to support the children - these are the economic consequences of having children. In medieval times, people who couldn't afford to have children ended up with the children dying of malnutrition and such.

It is very unfortunate, but if the parent splits from the partner and that split causes too much economic hardship, then they are seeing the consequences of their very own actions. Birth control can be used effectively now to ensure that children are only born when both parents are in an economic position to have children. I don't have much sympathy for parents who are ignorant about birth control or choose to have children regardless of their economic situation.

Unless we have socialized child care and such (which I am a big fan of), things will be very difficult for single parents trying to afford everything they want.

This guy can't make it on $1276 a week and had to move back in with his parents WTF that's $66k a year most of the country lives on less than that.
