In 2017, men worked 56% of all hours and earned 56% of all income. Women worked 44% of all hours and earned 44% of all income.

"If rape laws were gender neutral then men would falsely accuse women of rape" -- a discussion I had with a feminist.

If feminists actually believed in the theory behind toxic masculinity, they would support the men's rights movement. MRAs are giving men a voice and a safe space to express themselves.

I feel like there is an unwritten rule in society that men are expected to listen to their wives / girlfriends and be obedient to them. Nobody wants to talk about this though and some people even think it's misogynistic to bring it up.

Most feminists are radical feminists by the literal dictionary definition of radical feminism: "the belief that society functions as a patriarchy in which men oppress women"

Men do not seem like they are proud to be men. And this is detrimental to their mental health. We need to celebrate men instead of demonizing them.

The idea that women are "bigger victims" than men is a harmful, antiquated gender norm that promotes toxic ideas in society

Private prisons incentivise recidivism instead of rehabilitation so this will be a good thing for downtrodden men who end up stuck in the "system".

The article of course talks about racial equality being one of the main goals, but as a side effect I think this will also be good for men since incarceration and police violence are also men's issues.

I know there's still a debate about whether or not Biden and his woke administration will ultimately be harmful to men, but I'll take what we can get. This one policy change could have very large effects down the road for men and boys. Especially if it means that more fathers will be in their children's lives. Which happens to be a really big predictor of criminality to begin with (children who grow up without their fathers are more likely to resort to crime later in life).

Well, private prisons are a thing that absolutely need to end in the US. The prison complex is one of the big lobby, and has been pushing for further criminalization of petty things, and more. At least, this one thing is a step in the right direction.

Is there truly a debate about this?

The same is true for prisons in general. Every systematic review and meta-analysis on the effects of prisons on recidivism have found that prisons increase recidivism and that rehabilitation is much better overall at deterring crime.

In order to address men's issues we need to do it under the guise of addressing racism.

[–]Tmomp 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

A step forward, but that was a long article about something that affects men 90+% without mentioning sexism or men, but a lot about race. What does it take to address a clearly sexist issue targeting men head on and just say it's sexist and unfair to men?

I didn't say ignore race, class, and other parts, but just to mention the sexism?

The gender bias in policing and prosecution is a shit ton greater than the racial bias, and way further out of line with violent crime stats. In a world that really cared about equality, the x lives matter protests would have been about men.

Or black men at the very least.

They still play up female victims because they gain much more sympathy from people. But black women aren't really targeted more than white women. It's like a 50% difference at most, probably closer to 25%.

Which compares to a 200% difference between black men and white men. A 2,000% difference between white men and black women. And a 4,000% difference between black men and white women.

Here's a graph showing all this:

It's a good graph, though it is only comparing to populations and not accounting for violent crime rates, in which case the racial bias seems to disappear or even slightly reverse, while the gender bias remains about 5x higher for men than women.

True

[–]Dunkolunko 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so firstly, Biden, shut up on the race pandering bullshit, but second, the core concept of ending the private prison industry is great and a hugely important step in reorganizing incentives to encourage genuine rehabilitation, so well done!

I guess 8% of prisoners will have to be raped in public prison.

You ever think about how not a single politician in the country feels the need to take a stand against rape-as-effective-policy as it exists in the prison industry? I'm not saying 'Oh good, this is a start' to a bunch of fucking rapists.

Same with 'racial discrimination' for housing, which is already illegal, but the actual crisis is created by markets and income discrimination by credit bureaus.

Democrats pass laws that fix non-problems to get you to clap and cheer and forget that VAWA, written by Joe Biden, is a hate crime against all Men.

There is evidence of housing discrimination against minorities.

Although there's also evidence of housing discrimination against men.

That's your white female privilege for you.

It's hard for me to feel happy about this. Yeah, It's probably a move in the right direction but now we go back to state funded prisons we can also be underfunded depending on the state's budgets.

This feels like putting a band aid on a chainsaw wound. We need to stop putting men in prison at such a high rate period. A better quality of life for the men already incarcarated is fantastic and I support that but our ultimate goal should be less men in prison then anything else.

[–]Oncefa2left-wing male advocate[S] 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not an expert but the article gives the impression that part of the goal is racial equity, meaning putting fewer black people in jail to begin with. In part by offering better rehabilitative services that don't immediately steer you to a life of crime when you get out due to a lack of (legal) options to support yourself.

Those same changes though really ought to help everyone, including even white women. Although the biggest benefit will be for men and of course black people.

[–]austin101123 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Only makes up a small portion of private prisons, and doesn't even account for other private industry with bad effect in the prison system. A small bit of progress though.

[–]Oncefa2left-wing male advocate[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I'm wondering if this is only for federal prisons. States might need to follow through for their prisons as well.

[–]austin101123 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I red elsewhere this is only like 7% of federal prisons or all prisons I think? Take with grain of salt. I think most federal prisons are under something else.

[–]YesAmAThrowaway 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean often higher imprisonment rates also boil down to higher crime rates. The reason for people committing crime can often be rooted in those very discriminatory problems though and in terms of imprisonment of innocent people to keep those prisons profitable, the racism and misandry becomes pretty clear when looking at the proportions.

[–]fgyoysgaxt 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes but this is definitely a step in the right direction. More work is absolutely needed, but this is great news!
