Countries like Sweden focus on rehabilitation not vengeance with their prison systems and recidivism is far better than the US. They aren't letting him off easy because they don't care about boys, their focus is making sure people who commit crimes have the best shot at being reintegrated into society.

Considering the American-style prison system heavily impacts men compared to women, I'm not sure the mindset of wanting to punish as hard as possible because the victims were male is in the best interests of mens rights overall.
