I thought the point of equal rights was that gender and race didn't matter. Why is this even a thing? Isn't this exactly what we all have been fighting for? How can this make sense in anyone's head?

Isn't this exactly what actual racists would want? To be able to identify black-owned businesses? I seriously can't tell the difference between old-school racists and modern progressives anymore.

I was listening to Bret Weinstein's podcast yesterday and he had Zuby on, which, if you don't follow him, you should as he often expresses a lot of viewpoints that I think many who come here can relate to. He mentioned how when you have people going on about "black power" and identity this and that, support black businesses, it's just likely to create people to form their own groups on the other side.

I'd like to think in America we've made strides to tamp down on groups like the KKK and other White Supremacist groups, and so, it feels awkward when bLM and feminists say things are worse now than they were before.

How is this even legal? Aren't their laws against racial and sexual discrimination? Imagine filtering for "white owned businesses" or "male owned business", it would be absolute pandemonium. Surely the legal system hasn't wokified?

Google gets this information from the small business association. Which is a federal agency charged with helping small businesses.

If you're a minority owned business or a woman owned business, the SBA gives you better access to grant money, loans, and federal and state contracts.

The US government and many US states require that 5% of all contracts are awarded to minority owned businesses and another 5% to woman owned businesses. To get those contracts you have to register with the SBA. Who then hands your information over to Google.

Note that the way this data collection works means that just because a business isn't listed as "woman owned" doesn't mean it's automatically "male owned".
