Here’s what’s going to happen if you don’t get the guns off your property and into the hands of either a business or responsible person who can testify in court that they have possession of each firearm you have registered to your name:

She will file a domestic violence protective order against you and accuse you of threatening her with a gun, a hugely aggravating factor.

Protect yourself. Get the guns off your property. And carry a recording device in your pocket. And have that thing on.

And get a lawyer yesterday

Move the guns and separate from her. Record all interactions with a small audio recorder and/ or hidden camera now! You can get them at best buy.

My husbands ex filed a TRO. He had all of his guns taken away. Didn’t get them back for a year of jumping through hoops.

Move the guns.

I took my gun safe and the guns to a buddy's house before filing and kept them there until divorce was final and ex was moved out. You don't want her having any justification for a TRO filing because it's often the "I WIN" button in divorce. She's already using the "doesn't feel safe" codewords so you should really consider getting a digital voice recorder and have it running secretly on your person at all times when you're at home. This is not for gathering evidence, it's just to play for the cops when they show up after she's called them on a BS allegation.

I’ve been married for 20 years, just found out she’s been cheating the last 3 years. We have 3 kids, I’m in ca, I’m screwed no matter how you look at it. But I will call an attorney today THANKS! For all the advice.

You’re making a big mistake by not hiring an attorney. You are not properly protecting yourself and are giving up any sort of tactical advantage you have.

Ok thanks, I’ll move them out. I’m trying to work this out with a separation agreement and see what happens. One bump and I’ll get an Attorney… I just want to see where we are at before spending the $$

Don't hesitate to move them, take them to a friend or your parents. She's looking for excuses... Hopefully it gets better for you.

If you think it's a trap:

Speak to your attorney, ask them about the following:

Some police departments will store the guns for you.

Call your local police precinct and ask if they will store the guns for you. They will give you a receipt for the guns keep them there until the end of the divorce.

This would not stop a TRO since she could easily argue that you have more guns or could get another one, but it could play towards your character of being a compassionate and reasonable individual.

Watch out. She's manipulating the situation to gain favor. She'll play victim and people will believe her. Countless videos are out there of women like this playing the victim card and getting men's lives destroyed. Like many have mentioned....get out and get you a place. Tell her nothing in the process. When I tried to get out my ex tried to pick a fight and damaged some things when I told her. Some things can't be replaced and if the cops would've came I'd be in jail.

Just go ahead and “Sell” all of your guns to a good friend. That way, the firearms won’t be included with anything from this point forward. After the dust settles, buy back your guns. Should be easy since you sold them for $1 each.

Yeah, move them and protect yourself. No matter what she used to be like odds are that she’ll want to make this both a civil and criminal process to get what she wants. I had the cops called on my 3 times for the dumbest of dumb shit and didn’t touch her, threaten her, or even put her in a bad position other than being uncomfortable. I still, as of 3 days ago, and a year after the divorce get harassed and accused of abuse and sexual assault??? She’s a permanent victim in our story and I just am trying to move on. Protect yourself always!

Call your dad, mom, brother, SOMEONE you trust and is reliable and have them come to the house WHILE you are documenting all this on video, have them remove all the guns from the house. While you are still recording take an inventory of all the guns you have given said person and write it down and have them sign it, you sign it, and finally have HER sign it showing they have been removed from the property. And like it has been mentioned call a lawyer TODAY.
