I think her biggest mistake was taking her friend's advice and framing it as an 'open relationship'. There are so many other ways to do it. The best way would probably have been to agree that with three months apart, sex can happen. Agree to be honest and let the other person know what is happening so they don't have to guess.

Yeah. On the one hand she did get what she asked for. One the other. She was honest about wanting something that was guarenteed to be a fling. And he started seeing this girl every night like he'd replaced her. Especially if the girl he's sleeping with IS the girl from his work. Then that means there's going to be prolonged interaction going forward. I feel like even when she gets back the trust is broken on both sides. Whereas, the fling in a foreign country doesn't break the trust as much. But it does. I don't know. It's a really fucky situation that she put them in, for sure. I kinda feel like Daniel fucked this girl to be spiteful. Like, "Oh you want an open relationship? That's cool. I'll show you." Which I agree she brought it on herself. But at the same time I feel like if Daniel wasn't okay with the ppen relationship then he could have agreed to take a break. That way they can both do whatever while she's away while understanding that if a prospect arises for Daniel or her that turns into something more than just sex they don't feel guilty or like they need to wait. At this point it's clear that Daniel is going to catch feelings for this other girl. It's inevitable if they're fucking and seeing each other every night. I don't think this relationship lasted very long moving forward. Even with her attempt at a backpedal back into a closed relationship.
