No, I have met my fair share of leftists women more aligned with this sub (ie very moderate feminism with interest in men's rights) than with woke nonsense.

Ironically it is easier for a leftist women making academic research or write about men's issues because they are less likely to feel guilty, being ostracized or labeled as "incel"

In my experience I have found plenty of female leftist supporters of men's rights. They are just not loud, but I am not either. Everyone fears to be ostracized.

I know girls who are very serious about left-leaning politics, antiracism and other woke stuff, and yet feel slightly embarrassed by contemporary feminism and weirded out by terms like toxic masculinity, patriarchy and other such jargon.

I guess the picture that large parts of contemporary pop feminist rhetoric paints of what living like a woman is like (constantly living in fear of harrassing, abusive, lecherous men, constantly feeling mansplained to and devalued by men) is simply alien to some women's actual experiences.

For example I asked one woman what being a woman in engineering was like and she was like "Well most of us engineering students are nerds so we got along fine". She also said she doesn't mind being romantically approached by a guy in public as long as he's respectful.

You need to find smart women who don't care much about peer pressure.

No, there are definitely leftist women who are sympathetic to men’s issues, my partner is one of them. The thing is, they tend to have to keep these opinions on the DL or risk being shunned by their peers, much like us, so they are much less visible then the leftist women who toe the line of feminism.

I think she's right. There is certainly room for a kind of feminism that celebrates womanhood. But the one we have now is basically George Soros's propaganda for liberal capitalism.

I mean, if that wasn’t the case, then women like Prim Reaper and Cassie Jaye wouldn’t be noteworthy. But they are, because it’s not a common occurrence. Most left leaning women I knew subscribed to some form of feminism. Even those who didn’t label themselves feminists and were more about working class rights and issues. They still believed women have unique struggles and that men do not, which means they also believed women deserve unique attention and incentives and that men do not. I think there’s a lot of truth to the statement the feminism is the religion of the left.

It’s also worth reminding that being critical of feminism does not equate to being critical of feminism for its treatment of men. There’s plenty of women (and men, of course) who are critical of feminism for a myriad of reasons that don’t involve men. Because they don’t think feminism does enough to accommodate black and trans women, because they dislike corporate feminism, because they’re against sex work, etc. So saying you know plenty of people who are critical of feminism doesn’t actually mean much. I’d be more interested in how many of them have a gripe with the movement specifically because its treatment of men.

This is of course an anecdotal case but my girlfriend is definitely left-wing and she cares about men's rights as much as women's rights. Among my female friends most who are left-wing most buy into patriarchy theory and have some degree of misandry but it's definitely not a rule.

how can we engage the rest of the left in men's rights and make them stop pathologizing masculinity?

That's a much tougher question. It's hard since politics are more polarized than ever and people on one side of the spectrum tend to consume media and information sources from that same side of the spectrum. And in general left-wing media is very hostile to men's rights.

The best route I'd say is to treat the issue as part of a bigger one, the discrimination that results from the lack of empathy we have towards certain groups, usually through stereotypes that they are "dangerous" or "a threat". And show that the fight for men's rights is a necessary one to achieve social equality since it's necessary to succeed in the fight against homophobia, police brutality, racism (with the exact same arguments such as "don't wear a hoodie" being used in both racist and misandrist remarks), islamophobia (again with the exact same arguments being used against Muslims having originally targeted men) and basically all sorts of discrimination and hate speech that stem from a particular group being seen as dangerous or violent.

Of course this is easier said than done. As I mentioned with the radical feminist view dominating the media, this is a message that can only be spread individually and not en masse to everyone, but if you ask me the best way to stop the hateful tendency is to show how interconnected it is to other hateful tendencies, usually displayed by the far-right.
