Her friend isn't successful because she had a baby at 24. She's successful because she didn't make marrying a loser a higher priority than her own career, and she kept grinding to make her dreams come true.

The saddest part is this woman thinks her life is over at age 32 and doesn't seem to realize she has 50 more years to turn things around, to do the grad school and/or career thing and leave the useless man where he belongs, on the floor with his boxers.

ETA. I recently watched this docu on Netflix called The Suitable Girl which is filled with women who followed the rules of the game and lost. It's about the arranged marriage system, specifically in one part of India, and it's.....depressing.

I have a friend, whose grandma, back in the 1940s (conservative days), decided she wanted a baby but not a husband. So she did just that. The man tried to get her to marry. She refused. She raised my friend's mum on her own and remained forever an independent woman.

Which was gutsy as hell, and perhaps easier than having an adult child-man to also take care of.

Is it just me or does OP sound like the psychopath to me…

I heavily doubt the lawyer got pregnant on PURPOSE. Could be an accident and she realized her ex bf was not fit to be her husband. I feel bad the OP husband is making her life miserable but she make it sound like beating the system is being a single mom. Hope she realize there are functional familes out there with husbands that makes the wife’s life easier

This is a bit weird. I could never imagine selecting someone on a handful of unfulfilled hypotheses...Like dude could have flubbed his education, he could have made her life unbearable. Those are too many assumptions for me to take for granted. Also, single mother by choice might be a desirable thing if you already have money. What if you go through a horrible pregnancy? What happens to the great career you had lined up? Maybe if you have some sort of semi-passive income set up and savings.

Btw, I was also raised with the understanding that men are given all of this importance and authority. Many men ain't shit ok, but there are people who are decent (and no not these equality 5050 guys).
