I once went to a birthday party, and my ex got mad because I showed up with a gift and he didn’t. He complained the whole time because I made him look bad. Now, he had to buy a gift because I got her one. I told him that he can split it with me lol big mistake.

His explanation was that she didn’t expect any gifts, and most people aren’t going to come with gifts anyways. I liked her and got her a gift for her hobby. Fast forward to the party, all her girl friends brought her gifts, except for the boys (apparently it’s acceptable for guys to show up empty handed, and that gift giving were things that only the girls did lol). We just shared the gift but she knew it was from me and tagged me in the photo. Lol

Moral of the lesson is that, you should never share a gift with your SO or let him take part of the credit. He doesn’t deserve it. Let him feel the shame of being a shitty friend.

Ofc he should choose and pay for the gift. As it's listed - you are just his +1. If both of you should go to a certain wedding location and the organization requires, that you sleep there, he should pay for that too, along with the transportation costs.

If you are the +1, it tells me the invite was not addressed to "Datedude and Comprehensive-Sky465", only to "Datedude", so they are his friends and it is his gift. You are going only to keep him company and meet his people. So since it is his gift, he pays for it and signs the card.
