If you report this to the principal, he/she will have the opportunity to summon the culprits individually in front of a witness and question them. A statement like "Word has reached me that you are planning to make an accusation against Mr X. Is this true?" will catch them off guard and if they are called interviewed without further chance to collaborate they will produce conflicting stories. Appropriate sanctions, if administered will dissuade them from ever doing such a thing again.

And if they actually do it, take it to the relevant administration/authority(/ies).

"Thought crimes" aren't a crime ... but conspiracy to commit ... typically would be.

Anyway, very possible they may plan/scheme ... and never do. And if they're not intending to, e.g physically harm, I see no particular urgency to take specific action (other than document, collect evidence, etc.), before they actually do or attempt something. If they were planning something doing physical harm, that would be a quite different situation.

Also, conspiracies often have weak links. Often one or more will rat the others out to try and save their own skin.

But you mentioned nothing of the age(s), so relevant appropriate action depends quite a bit on that. E.g. if they're adults/college, that's the kind of stuff that warrants expulsion and criminal prosecution. If they're, ... I dunno ... 6 years old say, that's more like a principal calls the parents to have a serious talk with them kind'a thing ... and various age appropriate responses between.

The other day, a six-year-old girl came up to me when I was walking my dog and joined me for the rest of the walk. It was fun, but I kept thinking what might the situation look like? How will the parents react when she comes home saying she was on a walk with an unknown man? I could not shake the thought. And most probably, it was just me. This sounds like these girl students are targeting a male teacher due to his gender, or acting their belief that their gender and his gender will allow them to make a false accusation without consequences. This may be due to a hostile environment created by the school which does not explain to students and staff that gender based harassment of any time will not be tolerated.

First, look up the rules on recording in public. You want to know if you are in dual-consent, or single-consent state. If it's single consent, as long as YOU know you're recording, it should be OK. If it is dual consent, you won't be able to - the rest of the parties must be informed. Next, look to get them to talk carelessly, around witnesses. Talk to administration about the plot, and ask them to install security cameras if they can. Especially if they are planning to claim assault, cameras will end thst. If they claim harassment, it's harder to prove he's innocent, but the video might help. Also it confirms if everyone is there at the time of the alleged incident. It might provide an alibi by showing people aren't there at the time of the accusation...

Google maps can be a help, too, if you enable the location services. Google will track your location all the time, of you allow it - again handles location and who is where, at what time.

The administration might also be able to put a teacher's assistant or teaching intern into the class, too. That adds a witness.

Also, document, document, document! Write down times, discussion notes, attendees, location, whenever possible. The details will matter.

Also, you'll be hated, so be prepared to lose this circle of friends.

Go make a statment to the teacher, principle and vice principles that there is a plot. But you wish no action to be taken yet because they have not done anything.

Also write this statment down while its still fresh in your head about who said what to who. Date it sign it hand out copies to these people.

Should they then actually try to do this and it lines up with the statement being seen before the events occur they would be in the world of shit for plotting this.

First of all, It's not your job to protect him. That's his job. What you can do is tell him what you heard and who said it. If your not prepared to name the girls making the plans, then you are only causing concern for the teacher and casting a shadow on all his female students. Once he knows what's going on he can protect himself.

He can warn those above him of what's going on. Then if these girls do try something, then there is already a record of these plans and they will be the ones in trouble, not the teacher. You maybe called on to tell what you heard.

Good for you for looking out for this teacher and being grown up enough to want to do something to help him. This kind of thing can ruin a Mans career and livelihood. Those girls think this is a big laugh, but the ramifications of their actions could ruin his life and theirs.

Tell the teacher what you've heard and who said it.
