It should really be an attempted ending charge. Sadly, the police and the courts are complicit in this dangerous homicidal act. A man is showing you what he's capable of when he cuts off your oxygen. I survived an attempted ending years ago, and all it took was a slimy lawyer who specializes in kink on the side to let my attempted ender off even though I wasn't into that and I had multiple other injuries. A few of the other NVX who used strangulation as a tactic also mentioned that if ending were legal, they'd end me. It's the number one predictor of spousal homicide. Most serial enders and mass sh--ters also have a long rap sheet of DV, moreover, strangulation.

I wish these studies would explicitly indicate whether they were talking about strangulation in sexual contexts, non-sexual contexts, or both. I can imagine BDSM people discounting them by taking them to be discussing exclusively non-sexual strangulation, since the whole premise behind BDSM is that if something's done while someone is horny it somehow loses its moral wrongness.

I believe the article is referring to strangulation on the context of domestic violence, but I can't dismiss the link between "choking", in the context of BDSM or "rough sex", and how mainstream it has become. The most softcore pornography nowadays will feature it, and it's being pushed to more and more people as normal and expected.

It's so fucked up that literal strangulation has become so mainstream that expecting to just have my neck gently held and caressed, because it's very sensitive is "weird", but if I expect someone to choke me I'm a sexually liberated cool girl.

All men I have ever known that was into this kind of stuff was covertly violent. Now that I know I could've easily died on someone's bed, I'm relieved that I purged this degenerate practice from my sex life for good.
