We currently have an economic system that thrives on individual consumerism and gratification. Our media is all about looks, status and consumption. Everyone, men and women are expected and encouraged to 'be successful' which usually means getting as much money and stuff as possible. Most people have less and less money because it's being funneled up to a few billionaires. Yet, we are still told to 'be successful.' It might be less of a struggle in the dating scene if only one sex were earning the money in the current economic system. But that makes the sex not earning into second class citizens. So, we can't go back to that. If we had an economic system that encouraged more cooperation and community, less individual consumerism and instant gratification, while still including both sexes in earning money. Would the dating scene follow?
