I hope we get more men into psychological fields like counsellors, therapists and the like. I’d imagine that not many female mental health professionals would be comfortable treating men with these values.

I think it is sexual assault but I don’t think the sentence is fair and no woman would ever receive even close to that sentence for the same thing

Touching someone’s feet with out permission is a very minor crime in my opinion, so I believe the punishment does not fit the crime especially since he had mental health issues.

I’ve read stories of female teachers who committed statutory rape against boys and didn’t serve any time at all.

His action lifts up sexual assault statistics against women based on which government gives funding. So he was just a puppet to increase statistics anyhow. Conviction is a plus for funding.

I think you have to take into consideration that he was previously given a Criminal Behaviour Order for it and breached it twice, whether it’s going to be a repeated offence will weight his sentence and clearly he will be a repeat offender. Add in the fact that one of the victims was a teenager and that’s another level of sinister. I don’t think you can call touching people’s feet and moaning just making people ‘uncomfortable’, you can’t let things like that happen and just go oh forget it, he’s harmless because it’s only their feet. I understand it’s very different from other sexual assaults but it still can’t be allowed to happen.

Moral panics have always targetedd the mentally handicapped because bigots don't (want to) imagine not all people have the same kind of agency as the neurotypicals.

Look at his eyes: that's what we call the "psychotic gaze" in the social sector(translated from French so it might not be the right term in english). He either has a birth defect, psychotic or autistic (not the trendy type, the mental institution type) or is drugged out of his mind (and that's another story).

Those are the kind of people repressive societies dispatch with cruelty at any chance they get. In the US it was lynching, in Europe it was burning.

The self proclaimed "tolerant" gush about the awful treatment we gave to different people in the bad old days imagining it was your cute and friendly trisomic they tortured to death for witchcraft or demonic possession. It wasn't. It was this guy.

The choice is to lock them up in mental institutions, destroy them like cocroaches, or give them a chance to have a shot at walking among us. That last one implies people having some degree of tolerance for uncomfortable encounters, and apparently that's just too much to ask of the "tolerant people".

This guy deserves to receive mental help. But it was NOT sexual assault. OP is 100% right. Calling it sexual assault is a spit in the face as to what sexual assault truly is. This lady won’t suffer the painful nights of crying yourself to sleep because the guy touched her feet. This is what I feel every night, and what many others feel every night. I wanted to be a therapist for adolescent boys and girls who’d suffered from sexual assault or any other trauma but I decided not to go to college. My hope though is that things like this will stop so that men and women who have ACTUALLY suffered can get the help they need without feeling like everyone else around them will downplay it.

He also asked the woman questions about her shoes, which he touched without her permission.

Police identified Creed on CCTV as he had previously been banned from speaking to rail passengers following a sexual assault at a station in February 2020.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that the 21-year-old took off the boots of a teacher and massaged her feet while she was waiting for a train at Stowmarket station in 2020, and started moaning as if he was sexually aroused.

Following his sentence for that offence and one other, he failed to comply with the requirements of the criminal behaviour order (CBO), the court heard.

It was not just that he touched their feet. It was HOW he did it and WHERE he did it. He was legally barred from the location and was under strict guidelines as to how he can act.

Two years is a bit much. A fine and some therapy sounds much more reasonable. Get him some sexual harassment training and a productive sexual outlet.

Was he wrong sure, body autonomy and consent are real things and a big deal. But at the same time I am not sure what actual harm he did other than being impolite and crude. Unless someone was injured because of his actions I don't think he needs jail. He needs help.

I have a female foot fetish but I don't go touching strangers without permission. This man is just mentally ill and he didn't sexually assault anyone. He needs psychological help, medication, probation, not prison for 2 years. The penal system in the UK is notoriously lenient; we just saw an article here about a woman torturing her boyfriend and she only got 6 years for dumping boiling water on his head. Her accomplice got 9 years. So you're telling me the foot-fondler gets 2 whole years?! People probably got less time for manslaughter in the UK.

When everything is considered "sexual assault," then that phrase loses its meaning and it does a disservice to actual victims.

It also calls into question statistics, as another commenter pointed out here, and what other minor offenses were falsely labeled as assault.

To answer the second part first, yes it is sexual assault, which leads to the answer to the 1st part, sexual assault is a very broad term, from something as minor as this, to actual non-consensual sex. This is why the term "rape" is often so heavily restricted, so that "sexual assault" can be used for men to diminish the perceived severity.

My parents are strict about this, in the opposite way. In India, touching someone’s feet is considered as a mark of respect, and dare I not touch any feet and say namaste when I meet other people.

I assume you find the sentencing excessive because it was just feet.

Here's how the legal and moral theory works.

It doesn't matter that it was just feet. What matters is the subjective experience of the perpetrator. Since, for the perpetrator, this was a sexual act, he is guilty of sexual assault. This isn't about gender or sex. This applies to everything.

For example, if a guy breaks into your house at night and stabs a pillow, thinking it was you, he will be charged with attempted murder. It doesn't matter that there was objectively no way for him to harm you, since he only stabbed a pillow and you weren't even at the house. It was attempted murder, because, in his subjective reality, he thought he was stabbing you. So, his act was criminal because he had a criminal mind.

There was a case a few years ago, where a guy pretended to be disabled and hired nurses to bathe him. He was charged with sexual assault as well, because he derived sexual pleasure from those baths, even though the nurses had no idea at the time and would bathe any patient who hired them.

What's important is the intent of the actor.

I think he got what he deserved. It is interesting though that he got a much longer sentence than that woman who was a multiple false rape accuser.

As a man who finds womens feet to be sexy, I hate this. I have dealt with harassment for liking feet and have been called a creep. So in the last few years, it seems like to foot fetish community has gain some ground on normalizing liking feet. Then something like this happens, and we take two steps back. Just like when I’m on a live feed, and one or two idiots, keep posting “show feet”. It gives us a bad reputation and I fucking hate it.
