I seem to be more attractive among Asian women than among women of other races/ethnicities, so I’d say that SMV can be subjective based upon the local market.

i'd say for looksmaxxing, it depends on what a guy looks like, a ''manly'' looking dude can't pull off kpopmaxxing even if he's asian, and will come off as creepy for trying. but for the subset of men who look ''feminine'' (which a lot of asian guys do naturally, honestly. but i guess a feminine white guy can do it too.) it's going to appeal to that market better than trying to act manly and just coming off as a nerd. women understand this better and usually don't try out styles that will make them look riduculous

Man Y is just above average, particularly if women in his 'hood know that there are other hotter guys out there somewhere.

I was talking with my wife about this a few days ago. I work in a really small city that is mostly rural, and highway. A drive-through city, maybe 10,000 population. And I get a weird reaction from women here, like I'm the hottest thing they've ever seen. I'm a straight 10 here.

But a normal city I'm like an 8 max. Your rating is 100% effected by availability.

They are objective when done at a population level. What i mean is, you show 100 men a photo of a woman and ask the men to rate her, average her out, and it should give you an idea how men are perceiving her from a physical standpoint

if everyone's hot, the average will be hot. That's how averages work.

If everyone is ugly, the average will be ugly.

Depending on where the average lies, above or below can mean either hot or ugly.

Specific traits objectively attractive. Full mouth of teeth. All extremities, etc.

But you still have to choose from those available (and willing) to you.

You saw this in small towns prior to social media. Quarterback and Cheerleader matching up type of shit. Brandon may be the great thing in the town of 5000, but put him up against 50000 men and does he measure up there

SMV is objective to a point, everyone is going to rate someone different based on their likes/dislikes.

Ex: A girl who only wants a guy over 6 foot, will rate a gorgeous guy who's 5'10 as an smv 7 or something, the girl next to her will say WTF, the guys a 10.

Better to really have groups.

good looking,
Hot

And a girl can say, yes he's really good looking, but not my type.

Same with a guy, some guys like a Phat ass, some don't.

In my opinion they're primarily objective for people with a large audience like celebrities, models, performers, and others with very public-facing jobs. The constant feedback on their looks and its impact on their earning/networking potential makes it so they have to be objective about their appearance. For the average person it's more subjective and localized but with the ever growing prevalence of social media and dating apps and such, people are forced to rate themselves and each other more objectively than what's practical

I believe attractiveness is objective to a point.

I can look at someone (male or female), and acknowledge that that person is an attractive human, even if I am not specifically interested in/attracted to that person.

I definitely believe people can looksmaxx. The number of "points" you can go up depends on how much effort you're prepared to put in, and how much money you can spend as I do believe some people need to "hardmaxx" (plastic surgery) to gain any significant attractiveness points.

However, I believe anyone being a "10" is subjective, in that there will never be one person who is perfect to everyone. I believe if you are an 8 or a 9, then you are someone's 10.

I basically think beauty is mainly objective, but partially subjective. There certainly are many faces that we can all agree are unattractive, but what I mean by agree is not “yes or no”, but the language of our bodies. What we say & what our bodies respond to are two completely different things. People have a tendency to proclaim their lack of attraction to a celebrity that most people glorify, while they haven’t encountered that individual in person. Our bodies aren’t politically correct nor pretentious. Beauty standards are impacted by culture, biology & personal opinion. I think all women are more attracted to taller men. I think all women are attracted to men with straight hairlines. I think women prefer deeper voices, that doesn’t mean they’ll leave their partner for a man who lacks those traits, it’s matter of overall measurement, which man best embodies the traits women find attractive in men.

The best answer is it’s both.

It’s objective first and foremost, in the entire population of people. The most attractive people are rated so by the vast majority of people and vice versa, so it’s very objective.

But, in a constrained population, average looking people can be treated as very attractive looking people, if they are the most attractive people in that group. It gets into uncomfortable talk, but people lower on the attractiveness ladder can’t realistically win an ultra-attractive person, so they’ll play with the mid tiers and treat them like gods because it’s the highest league they have a shot at playing in. So, in those environments, it can be somewhat subjective.
