Vetting is not new or unique to FDS. This movie came out in 1993, the scene presented as old-school wisdom. It was not met with backlash, and comments are in praise of the "door test." Do not be afraid to use similar tactics to see whether your partner shows qualities you want.

If the genders were reversed and it was a mother telling her daughter "when he picks you up wait to see if he opens the car door for you. If he doesn't then just turn and walk away, date's over, he's history" the comments would be UP IN ARMS about how he deserved another chance, that's bullshit, eQaULiTy, etc, etc 😂🤡🙄

This is a great test, the character is right. Except when a guy applies this test it's pragmatic, but when a woman does she's being cruel and unfair

My most NVX actually told me about this one day and my reaction was: "who the hell has a car without automatic locks anymore? That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard".

If a man thinks it's ok to intentionally inconvenience both of you by using his key to open just your door in a car with automatic locks, then I expect him to be throwing his jacket down over puddles for me. If we're going to waste time playing anachronistic games of pseudo-chivalry, then game on, mIlOrD.

Bonus tip, if this man HAS a car old enough not to have automatic locks, this man is either way too old for you or is unhealthily preoccupied with cars in general or certain vintage cars specifically (men who love old muscle cars are especially suspect). Vet these men hard, they feel like they have something "manly" to prove 😆

The other interesting takeaway for 2022 is that even a trashy criminal character in a 30 year old movie says that a man is supposed to impress a woman, and judge her personal qualities, even in a likely short-lived high school relationship. The concept of maintaining your own personal dignity through how you treat others has gone out the window.
