Hello! I am a long time lurker, but finally decided to post and be vulnerable, because I could desperately use some advice. This will be long as I want to include enough details and context to get specific advice, but feel free to skim.

TLDR: I am in a 4 year relationship, and have a low libido that I’m worried will cost me my relationship. But I so badly want to change that and am hoping for some tactical advice beyond “see a doctor” or “breakup”. I’m also wondering about ideas on how I can get more in tune with my sexuality / become more sensual, as I do think that could help.

Background:

I am 27, bf is 30. We have been together for 4 years, living together for 1 year.

I’ve spent a lot of time researching low libido, browsing all the different subs for it, searching on here and reading recommended articles and posts. I do have a couple of RP books I need to dive into.. I know what is causing the low sex drive which I’ll share below.

A big reasoning for my low libido is due to the shame I have surrounding premarital sex, growing up in a Christian home. Despite being raised in the church, I became sexually curious / masturbated in my teens. But I still believed I was going to save myself for marriage.

I also do struggle with my mental health. Specifically I have mild anxiety/depression, and ADHD. In the past I was on antidepressants, along with BC which I know negatively impacts libido. I stopped taking anything for a while. But ultimately it wasn’t realistic for me, so now I’ve been on a different medication, which is also known to increase sex drive (although that hasn’t been the case for me). For the most part, I feel like my mental health is better than it has been in years. But I still deal with some laziness/fatigue and can get very overwhelmed and stressed out when it comes to work, finances, etc.

I’ve asked myself if I could be asexual or possibly interested in women. I don’t think either of these are the case. Despite having a low libido, I still enjoy and desire sex and occasionally masturbate.

Anyway, if it isn’t clear already, I didn’t end up saving myself for marriage. I lost my virginity when I entered my first serious relationship in college, which lasted about 2.5 years before ending - I do contribute the lack of sex as part of the reason why. This partner only had sex once before me, so we were both very inexperienced. I didn’t really enjoy sex despite being attracted to him, and was never “satisfied”. So not a great first experience for me.

Soooo after that I did go through a phase where I engaged in casual sex, nothing crazy. This was before I discovered RPW or knew/cared about keeping my n count low. While I do have major regrets and shame looking back at this period of time, it did help me discover the sexual side of me and further supports my belief that I’m not asexual.

And that leads me to my current relationship…

Where I’m at currently:

As mentioned, bf and I have been together for 4 years, living together for 1. We went through a honeymoon phase, but even then I don’t think our sex life was crazy. Maybe 3-4x a week at best, especially since we weren’t living together. Things slowly died down, I would say for the past 2 years or so my libido has gotten very low. There’s been ebbs and flows for sure, but typically we have sex 1x a week, 2x on the high end.

I am very attracted to my bf. When we have sex, ~80% of the time it’s really great. I feel amazing and sexy and feminine afterwards. I love the connection and intimacy it brings us. I love making him feel good, and I see a clear difference in his mood and demeanor, and the way he speaks to me when we’re sexually active.

I so badly want to be that girl who wants to have sex multiple times a day. I am not happy with the way things are and I genuinely want to change.. and create a lasting change, not just a temporary fix. But my lack of experience with sex and lingering embarrassment/shame I have surrounding it makes it hard.

Bf and I talk about marriage, but it’s been 4 years and we aren’t engaged and I don’t blame him. I’m honestly shocked he hasn’t broken up with me already. But I love him and I don’t want to lose him and I know something needs to change.

What I’ve tried/am currently doing:

So first and far most, I do plan to discuss this with my dr. I’ve been scared because I don’t want her to take me off medication that actually works for me, after so many years of trial and error. I also would like to pursue therapy - both individually and as a couple, but money is tight at the moment and I don’t think I could afford it.

I am not overweight. I actually have lost around 20lbs and am underweight from a health issue. Sooo as a result I stopped working out. But I don’t love my body right now. My boobs shrunk. My butt is a pancake. I’m skinny, but I feel soft and flabby. I want to get back into a routine but I don’t know where to start/what to do so I don’t lose more weight.

I am self employed and work from home. So really I could work 0 hours or 10+ hours depending on workload and/or what I feel up to. There’s no reason I can’t dedicate time towards exercise and self care. Sometimes I’m great at this, but other times when my mental health isn’t at its best, I get lazy and neglect it

A glass of wine definitely helps get me relaxed and open to sex, but I don’t want to rely on that. I’ve also tried thc/cbd tablets marketed to get you “in the mood” and they also help, but it doesn’t seem like a realistic long term solution. Currently I’ve been researching natural herbs/supplements that could help.

My thought is maybe I need to dedicate an hour or so before he gets home to get myself feeling sensual and in the mood for sex? But I don’t even know what could help?

• Has anyone here successfully improved their libido?

• Any natural remedies to consider? (I realize this isn’t medical advice, I’ll do my research but curious for any personal anecdotes)

• Any tips for how I can get more in tune with my sexuality? Especially if I am dedicating a set time to it each day?
