I know it's ugly to say, but I was admittedly disappointed yesterday when I found out that my child is going to be a son. Not because it matters to me, mind you, but because I had hoped that my child would be able to live exempt from the misandry of the world and from ever-inflating dating standards on the part of the opposite sex (in the most likely event that my child is straight), especially since, given my height (about 5' 7" or 1.70 m) and that of my wife's family (her brother is about 1.68 m or 5' 6"), I can't realistically expect my son's height to be anywhere near the magic numbers of either 6 feet or 1.80 m. Is heightism against men really as bad among the younger generations as I've come to see it represented on the Internet?

There's also the fact that I'm mildly on the ASD spectrum, and I've been deathly afraid of my child going through what I went through, although my wife's extended family is the most non-autistic family I've ever seen, plus based on studies showing a low occurrence of autism among Latinos of all social classes in the US, I have reason to hope that the fact that my wife and I are of fairly different racial groups overall (I'm mostly of British Isles and Italian ancestry with some Native North American and she is mostly Native Mexican with a smaller Spanish component) will help to give our child some "hybrid vigor" and prevent recombination of troublesome recessive genes.

Given how heightism and being on the spectrum aren't really impediments for girls to find love, you can see my personal reasons along with the social ones for why I was hoping for a girl.

Anyway, that's a lot of information about my personal context. What do those of you LWMAs who've had sons or who know something about raising boys in this world have to say?
