Would you look at that, asking "what is the situation for men?" causes the sexism of the original statement to disappear entirely.

[–]Extra-Strike2276 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They just deny it happens, and down vote and ban anyone that says it does. It keeps their victim card active

[–]art_eseus 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"I wasn't allowed to do this thing."

"WELL I'M A GUY AND I WASN'T EITHER SO IT'S NOT SEXIST"

"Yeah but it's specifically because they don't trust me with my own body, they don't treat me like an adult which is a constant problem I face as a woman."

"THEY DON'T TRUST ME EITHER, SO WHY IS IT YOUR PROBLEM?"

"So then. . .shouldn't we fix that? Why are we argueing?"

"ITS NOT SEXIST"

[–]EmirikolWoker 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"I wasn't allowed to do this thing because of sexism"

If you're going to represent the position, at least do it accurately.

[–]art_eseus -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was literally stated in the third line of that comment. Also my satir WAS accurate but ig you just want to find something to argue about 🙄

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on one's sex

If both sexes are treated the same, it's not sexism.

I think you've already dumbed it down way too far.

If that were true you’d get it😅

[–]FrattyMcBeaver2 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's ageist. Meaning they were discriminated against based on age.

[–]JustSomeGuy2008 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can’t dumb it down any further

I very seriously doubt that

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Need me to try? Just for you?

[–]EmirikolWoker 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

If a thing happens to a woman supposedly because of sexism, but men have the same thing happen to them, then it's not because of sexism against women. You can't have the cake and eat it.

[+]electriccflower -15 points-14 points-13 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This was the one posted. You’re welcome to post a different one involving a man and read my comments.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They don't write articles like this for men. Men understand the reality of life because we've been living it for our whole lives. It's normal for men to deal with such basic issues. This is somewhat new to women because, historically, women valued their ability to produce offspring.

[–]electriccflower -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Literally laughed out loud at that failed attempt of an excuse.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, you are the result of a woman who valued her ability to produce children. Go gripe at your mom.

[–]Temporary_Spend_3111 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They arent being denied because of their gender they are being denied because of their age. Thats not sexism mate

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They’re being denied because they don’t have kids and a future partner might want them. That’s sexism my guy.

[–]superstonkape 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No if anything it’s ageism.

[–]Temporary_Spend_3111 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But both men and women who are young are denied. I was denied at 18 19 and this year at 20. Going to try again with a new doctor at 21.

Thats not them being sexist against me. If anything like the guy who commented bellow said "its ageism"

[–]Easywormet 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A woman being denied sterilization bc a future husband might want kids is the same as a man being denied sterilization bc a future wife might want kids. They’re both experiencing sexism. It’s not either/or.

Or...you know...said person might change their mind as the get older and mature more.

If you were smarter, this would be obvious to you.

How is that sexism?

[–]DanteLivra 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Preventing young people to go through surgery for something they might regret later isn't sexism, it's a story that have been told multiple times.

I don't see sexism, I see doctors who don't trust what people do with their bodies.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s not anyones job but the person that’s getting the medical procedure done on them to determine if they will regret it.

That’s like a dentist denying me to get a root canal bc I might want that tooth later

[–]Lionheart27778 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a bad example.

Dentists and doctors often deny procedures they don't deem medically required.

A dentist won't do a root canal on a healthy tooth if it's not needed - just becouse you want one doing.

[–]DanteLivra 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

dentist denying me to get a root canal

You can't just walk in a clinic and get a root canal for no reason... The tooth needs to be ill in some way. No dentist will ever perform that procedure on a healthy tooth.

I get what you are saying, and I can agree to a point, but like I said, I don't think sexism is at play in this situation.

[–]PragmaticMaw 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tell us.you don't understand what sexism is without telling us you don't understand what sexism is lol

[–]arrouk 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This actually highlights one of the problems we all face. The misuse of words like sexism.

If everyone stopped being so divided, a united front can be formed to get change. As long as people are blaming the other sex nothing will be changed because they are not realy the cause.

Where are you getting incel from exactly?

[–]dw87190 32 points33 points34 points 4 years ago (50 children) | Copy Link

Had this exact conversation before, this is exactly how feminists think (unsurprisingly). And if you bring up the fact that girls get the pill as young they want without question, yet boys of the same age have no option for themselves, you can expect the same hypocritcal response, followed by a very unsurprising mislabel of "creep"

[+]electriccflower -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (49 children) | Copy Link

There’s condoms. And male birth control has been tried but there’s too many “side effects”.

[–]GnomeChompy 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But the men who partook in the trials very much wanted the BC to hit the shelves. However, the insurance companies were uncomfortable with the potential of being sued, so THEY were the ones who pulled the plug, not men.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn’t say it was the men. I just said it was the side effects

[–]GnomeChompy 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never meant to imply you did, sorry if I came off that way. My intention was to make sure the two groups were not accidentally conflated with eachother.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's no reason for the scare quotes around "side effects".

[–]electriccflower 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not scare quotes. It’s the reason the study was ended. As cited by the researchers.

[–]EmirikolWoker 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

Such as permanent infertility and suicidal tendencies. Those kinds of side effects.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

Female birth control has those side effects as well. Among others.

[–]Melkor7410 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's also non-hormonal female birth control. For men, it's basically condoms or reducing testosterone.

[–]EmirikolWoker 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

I see. So increased risk of male suicide (which already makes up 75%) and infertility at the rates they found with the trial are justifiable to you because it sometimes happens to women too?

[–]electriccflower 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

You’re incorrectly assuming that I’m justifying it. Lol. I’m stating a fact that female birth control has the same potential side effects yet they take it. Women are often expected to be taking it. I wish there was a solution for both sexes without such adverse effects.

I mean there is sterilization but not everyone wants to be permanently sterilized.

[–]EmirikolWoker 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

Women are often expected to be taking it.

Women have far more options to separate sex from parenthood, including multiple types of contraceptive. Women have the options and thus are expected to use them. Considering that men have all the responsibility of parenthood without the choice to forgo it that women do, that seems less unfair than its being presented here.

[–]electriccflower 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

All options which have side effects…. Men don’t have options? So condoms don’t exist? Spermicidal lube? Vasectomies?
Women are being stripped of their choice if you’re referring to abortion so that won’t be an argument for long.

[–]EmirikolWoker 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Men don’t have options? So condoms don’t exist? Spermicidal lube? Vasectomies?

I said women have more options.

If a couple have sex, and the woman doesn't want to be a parent, she has the following options (many of which can be done unilaterally without including the partner in the decision):

  • caps or diaphragms

  • combined pill

  • condoms

  • contraceptive implant

  • contraceptive injection

  • contraceptive patch

  • female condoms

  • IUD (intrauterine device or coil)

  • IUS (intrauterine system or hormonal coil)

  • natural family planning (fertility awareness)

  • progestogen-only pill

  • vaginal ring

If any of those fail, she (currently) has the right to abort up to a certain point in the pregnancy. If the doctors are anything like the ones in the UK, they'll remove the man from the room to make sure there's no undue influence on the decision when talking to the woman.

If she forgoes the multiple contraceptive and abortion options, she is able to give the child up for adoption. In the US, she can even use "safe haven abandonment" laws to abandon the child at a police or fire station, no questions asked. This can all be done without any consent of the father (who may want to be a parent).

Now let's flip it: a couple have sex, and the man doesn't want to be a parent. His options are:

  • condoms

  • vasectomy

If either of those fail, he is on the hook for 18+ years of child support for a child he didn't want. Even if the conception came about through statutory rape of the father.

If a man wants to be a parent (or not), he needs the woman's cooperation. If a woman wants a man to be a parent, she doesn't require his cooperation at all. That is what unequal reproductive rights looks like.

[–]electriccflower 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Majority that you listed for women are hormonal and have those suicidal thoughts and permanent infertility as side effects. Also Infections, toxic shock syndrome, nausea, headache, decreased sex drive, dryness, mood changes, weight gain, cancer, heart attack, etc. I’ve tried most birth control methods available over the past 10+ years and hated every single one of them.

Where I live - abortions are banned outright starting at fertilization. So unless I travel hundreds of miles it’s not an option.

And who is financially responsible for paying for the contraception that the woman takes? The woman only?

Adoption/abandonment isn’t a reasonable alternative to pregnancy/childbirth that can be physically and emotionally traumatic even when the pregnancy is planned.

Researchers tried to have hormonal male birth control, similar to women - but participants complained of the side effects. Side effects women have suffered for decades.

A man doesn’t have to be a parent even if the woman keeps the baby. Paying child support doesn’t make him a parent. He can terminate his parental rights legally by going to court.

[–]Nevarinin512 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not the same side effects. Read the study and not some article and you’ll see the difference.

The pill is out since 1955 or so and was improved multiple times. The whole mechanism behind it is totally different.

[–]dw87190 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

"Too many side effects"? What? We can't be pregnancy trapped anymore?

[–]electriccflower 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That’s what I’ve read at least. The participants complained of the side effects so the meds never went past trials

[–]dw87190 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Probably my cynicism talking, but something seems off to me. Society doesn't give a shit about something like this badly affecting men. Willing to bet they made them fucked up on purpose to skew the test group response. Feminists might preach about male birth control, but to put it into practise would harm the matriarchy because it's one less way for women to financially abuse men (eg, pregnancy trapping for child support privilege)

[–]electriccflower 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Google search says the side effects were mostly acne mood swings, and depression.

Child support often doesn’t cover a lot. I’m not denying that women might try to trap a man into staying in a relationship by getting pregnant. But a child costs wayyyyy more than most people get in child support.

[–]arrouk 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There have been to many side effects for 50 years.

The problem is men will actually have a way to control their own fertility and that isn't a popular idea behind closed doors.

[–]electriccflower -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How are men currently not able to control their own fertility?

[–]arrouk 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Men have condoms and abstinence right now. Lots of women and men don't like or cannot use condoms.

Women on the other had have many more ways from hormone pills to an implant in the arm, and condoms and abstinence.

Once men can take a pill or have an implant how many of those surprise baby's will be happening?

There will always be shit guys who lie, just like there are shit women who lie now. We shouldn't pretend men have the same control or access to resources that women have.

[–]electriccflower 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Womens options have a million side effects. Search for yourself. They’re not good options. Similar male options were halted because they had the same side effects. Why should women have to subject themselves to it? They shouldn’t. And neither should men. There needs to be better choices for everyone.

[–]arrouk 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would actually consider some of those side effects tbh if I had the option.

That's the difference, I don't get the option.

[–]electriccflower -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don’t disagree but that’s not a woman’s fault. They need to figure out different non hormonal options

[–]arrouk 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahhh. But I'm not blaming women, I'm blaming the board members and managers of the companies that produce them and the members of the government stopping them moving forward.

That's the point of the post and you are assuming I'm doing the same thing.

Men are not responsible for everything that happens to women and women are not always responsible for what happens to men.

If we let all young women have their tubes tied, will they promise never to blame a doctor for not doing anything to stop them, when they get regrets at 30?

[–]electriccflower 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It wouldn’t be the doctors problem even if they did regret it. They should have full autonomy over their body. Would you be okay with them getting multiple abortions since they weren’t “allowed” to be sterilized?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It wouldn’t be the doctors problem even if they did regret it

That's what a rational person would say, yes. But I'm not convinced that they would be so rational.

Would you be okay...

This has nothing to do with me.

[–]electriccflower -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If they signed a consent form, not the drs problem. You’re not convinced? Where’s the data showing women regretting sterilization?

[–]duhhhh 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The doctor still needs to take time off work for thr court proceedings. The doctor's liability insurance still needs to pay for lawyers. The doctors liability insurance prices still go up.

I think it is wrong, but it is a doctor's problem. A few women have also sued doctors for giving their spouses vasectomies when they wanted children. They lost but at cost to the doctors. The urologist demanded my wife come in and sign a consent form as a result.

How do we fix this?

[–]WhereProgressIsMade 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One 20 year guy reported that it was easier to just go to Mexico from the USA and pay for a vasectomy out of pocket.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it's not the dr's problem, and it's not my problem, and I'm not saying they are regretting it.

You're misunderstanding my comment.

[–]Rol9x 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Why should we care? All I want is to have a way of letting men know about that as soon as they meet. it's only fair.

[–]63daddy 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Refusing to sterilize someone because they are young is age discrimination, not sexism. Young men run into the same thing.

It really says something when women feel a need to label something as sexism when it’s not.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's their ad hominem go-to. It's an attempt to win an argument without considering, or defending, an argument at all.

[–]63daddy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. acknowledging it’s an age issue doesn’t support their women oppressed by the patriarchy theory.

When the facts don’t fit feminist agenda, feminists simply change the facts.

[–]CawlinAlcarz 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link

Anyone who thinks this is sexism is a dolt. If ANYTHING it's "ageism" (if there is such a word). A male at 22 with fewer than 2 kids would have just as tough a time getting a vasectomy.

In reality, the Dr. is just protecting themself from future lawsuits.

Don't talk to me about informed consent and all that shit, yes it exists, but yes assclown courts ignore even more binding agreements chasing the judge's personal vision of morality all the time.

Later on if Susie Tubestied or Vinnie Vasectomy has a change of heart and regrets the decision they made at 22 (an age before their prefrontal cortexes were fully developed) and decides to sue the Dr. because they're now effectively sterilized (more likely that the male is infertile because the woman can still have her eggs harvested), a judge might say "It doesn't matter, Dr. Evil, if you informed the patient of the immoral act of his/her sterilization, because it was unethical and immoral to do that operation on them at this age, knowing they had no children!"

I wouldn't risk my license and career over a 22 year old's elective surgery decision either, and if you put yourself in the shoes of a physician, you have to at least see their point.

There are some physicians that will do that though, and it is a personal decision for the physician to make. In any case, it is NOT, repeat NOT sexism if the physician decides not to do it. Go find one that will.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link

When I got mine in my 30s, with 2 kids already, I had to do a 30 minute "counseling session" to make sure it was what I wanted.

The fact is, women are just not used to dealing with obstacles or difficulties that men have for ages. They wanted equality until they realized what being equal involved. So, now they treat it like a salad bar. Take some of this and leave that.

Equal pay? But, I don't want to work longer hours, more dangerous jobs, or bother with learning how to negotiate.

The draft? Forget about it. Men are stronger.

Abortion? My body my choice (but the men still have to pay for my decision).

Zoomer generation women are spoiled brats. Sorry. And, I hate to say that because I have one. But, my ex is the one who spoiled her and not I.

Edit: And, to clarify, I don't think my daughter is a brat. She's very sweet and kind. But, her idea about entitlement and materialism is high on the unhealthy meter.

You said a mouthful there! These kids think that ANYTHING that doesn't go their way is some sort of "-ism", whether it's sexism, racism, whatever. It's not so much a new phenomenon for young people to engage in histrionics, but these days, they have a bigger stage from which to spout their stupidity.

Honestly, isn't the fact that this 22 year old tik toker cannot see any perspective but sexism on this issue proof enough that her brain isn't developed enough to trust her decision making?

I'm sure it probably involves marrying a guy with money, divorcing him for a huge settlement, rinse and repeat.

[–]CawlinAlcarz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Haha, if so, then you'd think she'd want her baby making gear in good working order to ensure the payoff, even if only as a backup plan.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Child support is a small part of what women get in divorce settlements.

[–]CawlinAlcarz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

In big money divorces, sure... but a child will grease the money machine and get it rolling in a very clear direction.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh, that's for sure. A child will also encourage a woman to keep the child from the father as much as possible in order to maximize her monthly stipend.

[–]CawlinAlcarz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

If you marry a rich person and divorce in a couple years, the courts won't grant you much of a financial award. However if there is a baby in those couple years, everything changes.

Edit: Also, just to clarify, the STATE will encourage the mother to keep the child from the father as much as possible because a sole custody order ensures the maximum payout in child support which maximizes the state's revenue in federal matching and incentive funds.

When the payer is rich, the child support ordered can be enormous.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

100% There's a reason that they are called child support awards. it's a damn PRIZE and has no relation to what it costs to raise a child.

I had sole custody, ex wife didn't pay a cent, and I raised my kids just fine.

Just because men suffered doesn't mean women have to as well, and vice versa. That's a pretty toxic mindset to have.

There should probably be a bot to make the following reply every time this kind of response to equality comes up.

Tying men's rights to women's rights is the surest way of achieving gender equality. Nothing else has been shown to work. Feminists and traditionalists (assuming you're the kind of person who thinks there's a difference) will actively encourage and enforce double-standards if there is no penalty for doing so.

[–]Oldgamer1807 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure I can go with this one. My fiance had her tubes tied at 28 after having two kids, and the first doctor gave her pushback. We got lucky with the delivery doctor and they were able to do it pretty quickly after the delivery of her second child.

But they fucked it up. She had a crazy heavy period a couple years later and after visiting the doctor she learned that it was, in fact, a goddamned miscarriage. We're exploring having it redone.

On the flip side, I asked for a vasectomy and my PCP pretty much shrugged and said "Sure, whatevs".

[–]Day-Trader15184 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sexism? Lol. Nah.
It's almost as if doctor's just want you to be 10000% sure before you go through with a medical procedure and as people age they tend to change their minds and "reversing" isn't always straight forward :')

[–]ZenofZer0 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can confirm. Tried to get vasectomy at 21-22 and the doc laughed at and told to come back in 10 years or after at least 2 kids.

[–]electriccflower 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s sexist because the doctor said she might meet “Mr Right” and change her mind.

Her being discriminated doesn’t take away anything from a man being discriminated in a similar situation regarding a vasectomy…

IUD is less expensive, reversible and just as effective with lower complication rates. Its because tubal ligation is irreversible that its desired by some women as they suffer from anxiety that they will change their minds and have children. The uncertainty gnaws at their peace of mind. At least thats what Ive heard, but this fear of the unknown might be better addressed in therapy as opposed to indulging it with unnecessary surgeries.

[–]electriccflower 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

I had an IUD for a year. I was in pain the whole time. Took ibuprofen daily. Pain never went away. IUD isn’t a comparable option to sterilization. In my experience atleast.

[–]oflbtbs5 points 4 years ago [recovered] (25 children) | Copy Link

Yes, but you did give it a shot, which is something the woman in the story did not do.

[–]electriccflower 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

Right but I did it by choice because I did want kids in the future. If I didn’t want kids I would have probably wanted to be sterilized too.

The woman in the story should be able to make her own medical decisions.

That’s like ordering a steak at a restaurant and the waiter saying she can’t have one but she can have a vegetable plate instead. Just in case she one day decides to be vegan.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

In which case you go to a different restraunt.... this is the same as ordering a steak in a homeless soup kitchen.... you have to go the right restraunt cause the soup kitchen only give steak to over 30's

The thing about this is its under the NHS and the NHS won't generally sterilise somebody male or female until they have kids or are over 30 because too many people change their minds then sue the NHS.

This is written here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/female-sterilisation/ "You may be more likely to be accepted for the operation if you're over 30 and have had children."

and here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/vasectomy-male-sterilisation/ "You may be more likely to be accepted for a vasectomy if you're over 30 and have had children."

A GP simply won't refere you on these guidelines (male of female) unless you pay for it privatly which you are completly free to do....

The thing is.. if somebody who is male goes to a GP and is aged 25 gets sorted out and a female also 25 goes to the same doctors and get denied... go sue them for discrimination..... should be a slam dunk case right?

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Okay. Then we need to make a law to codify roe. If I try to prevent pregnancy permanently and am denied because I’m not 30 with kids, then I deserve the right to abortion.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

ROE? Eh?

| If I try to prevent pregnancy permanently and am denied because I’m not 30 with kids

Keep legs closed? that what the men are told. Keep it in pants. We also have ZERO rights or say after pregnacy occurs for the next 18 years we simply get sent the bill...

| then I deserve the right to abortion.

Ahh. you have the right to not be persecuted for an abortion but you don't actually have an expectation of a right to force somebody else to perform one on you. That would be slavery / forced labour. Realize where your rights begin.. but also realize where they stop is just as important.

Abortions can be a problem in that regard when "things happen" eg insufficent resources to perform. The resources are not infinite do not assume you have a right to them. Hence why "keep legs closed" is a valid statment... cause you can have the personal accountability / consequances anyway.

Thas the same when it comes to elective surgery especially non cirtical / life threating you will be the sterlization is bascally last on the list. abortion not too far behind it when compared to things like broken bones, heart attack, stroke, child birth etc.. etc.. etc..

[–]electriccflower -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

You don’t have the right to make a woman to get abortion. But you should have the right to terminate your rights/responsibilities to any child while she’s pregnant. And it’s not true that men have zero rights. Albeit I will acknowledge that custody laws lean more towards the mother especially when they aren’t married. My Dad won custody of my younger siblings when him and my step mom divorced.

Where did I imply that I would force someone to perform it? It’s about not limiting doctors from willingly performing it… I wouldn’t ask a doctor that doesn’t sterilize at all due to their personal beliefs. I would go to one that does perform sterilizations and expect to not be denied due to an arbitrary age made up by NHS.

And if I don’t want to keep my legs closed but they won’t sterilize me? What’s your suggestion

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You don’t have the right to make a woman to get abortion

No shit. I also didn't claim to want it either..... cause you know I do realize you cannot tell somebody else what to do with their body. eg I realize where my right stop...

Its unfortunate though women don'y realize where their rights stop so they forcefully currently enslave men and tax them an additional 12% of their income in my country cause they are not permitted to "walk away" though some do.. they simply leave the country / juristiction as a consequance now because they a) don't fight in court for rights of access since that system isn't fit for purpose b) don't have a right to walk away finicially.

| Where did I imply that I would force someone to perform it?

The workdgn you used can imply it. eg "right to an aboriton" its why i used language to clarify eg "right to not be prosecuted for an abortion" isn't quite the same as "right to a abortion procedure" simply having "right to an abortion" can mean either or both at the same time. Its a case of inprecise language / definatin issue... easy to mis-understand. Same as you made up the context of the right to force a women to have an abortion... easy done isn't it?

| And if I don’t want to keep my legs closed but they won’t sterilize me? What’s your suggestion

Well any other other forms of concraceptive.... obviously I am not an expert on contraceptive since men only actually have 3. 1) keep it in pants 2) condom 3) sterlization. Funny enough the same 3 are avilable to women but so are many more... patch, coil, pill, iud, ius, implant, ring, cap / daiphram...

But at least you have options right? I mean like they have been trying to make a male pill for I dunno 25 years or so? Yeah tehcnically it works... but for the wrong reasons... eg "things don't work" it basically functions like chemical castration so the side effects are somewhat nasty... I know some of the female options have bad side effects as well for some people but again at least you have options...

The other part of this is well reproductive system is working as "designed" eg its fun but has side effects like kids... its part of the reason why its "rewarding" and we have a sex drive.... the consequances are natually intended for survival.

So when you get deep enough into this conversation what you basically doing is asking (or demanding) to circumvent the rules of nature or assume people are "above the normal rules" and thats actually not a good mindset to have from my perspective cause it leads to pure raw entitlment.. eg somebody will sit on throne on the beach and order the tide not to come in kinda self centred mentality and completly demand they are immune to reality.

Currently the "hookup" culture has this mentality in the western world eg demand contraceptive... great.. we are seeing the other side effects of this as a result which is existing STD/STI's are rapidly on the rise as well as new ones and v2.0 of existing ones which seem to be immune to our modern medicine... so there are other consequances ther than just "kids" and "abortions" which lead back to "keep you pants on mentality" or "be responsible"

eg https://health.clevelandclinic.org/stds-on-the-rise-and-often-go-untreated-despite-being-curable/

New ones - https://edition.cnn.com/2018/12/06/health/std-sexually-transmitted-diseases-partner/index.html

So the converstion is a little more than just contraceptives, abortions and rights... There a big section around responsibiloity missing from the public discorse on the matter.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Forcefully enslave men with child support? Lol. And 12% so men are mad the woman only has to pay 88%? A woman can’t walk away financially either if the man takes the kid. She would have to pay child support. It’s just more common that the kid would go with the mom. My Dad got child support from my step mom from my younger siblings after they divorced.

You’re just spewing crap about my verbiage on the “right to have an abortion”. You’re arguing to argue. You know what I meant.

Most forms of contraception available are hormonal and have horrible side effects. The same side effects in a male birth control study occurred and the experiment was ended. Because nobody should endure them. Male or female. Aside from condoms there’s not a contraception that both males and females can use with the same side effects. So the options are just as limited.

Hormonal birth control could also be compared to chemical castration for a female because it stops ovulation (egg being released) from occurring.

[–]oflbtbs2 points 4 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Doctors arent waiters. Its patronizing but conscientious refusal is common. He is within his rights to do that and the woman is not entitled to his service. She may find it elsewhere.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It’s more common for a woman to be denied sterilization. Because doctors say they “might change their mind”. It happens w both male and female doctors.

I don’t get it. Wouldn’t they rather sterilize her than her have an abortion? I’m fully pro choice but with the current political climate surrounding abortion - I genuinely don’t understand why this is so common.

[–]oflbtbs3 points 4 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

The situation is difficult to compare. The differing anatomies present competitive alternatives to tubal ligation (as here - IUD but also things like depo provera etc) Im not sure what comparable alternatives there would be for vasectomy. I havent read about it much. I know there is reversible vasectomy.

[–]electriccflower 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Right but vasectomies aren’t always reversible. Or they’re unsuccessfully reversed.

Why does it matter if the woman changes her mind in the future? That’s her problem not the doctor. To deny sterilization for that reason, is discrimination

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why does it matter if the woman changes her mind in the future? That’s her problem not the doctor

She could sue the doctor later, and then it would be the doctor's problem. Even if she signs a paper taking full responsibility, she could argue that she wasn't properly informed of the consequences.

This is actually discrimination against cis gender people. When a trans person does a full transition, they would not be able to have children in the future. This however does not affect a doctor's decision to work on their reproductive organs.

I commented on a post about this a while back and got down voted to oblivion for simply saying I was denied a vasectomy without having my wife present and being 25 yet. They did something similar to my wife a few years later as well. It's not a sex thing as much as its a doctor's prejudice. There's some truth to thier belief that a lot change their mind later and might not fully understand their choice at that age. I still think the doctors shouldn't be able to decide something that can have such an impact on someone life though. Making sure they fully understand, and maybe give a few weeks of time to consider it fully but otherwise let it happen.
