"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

2014… guess no one listened. I wish I was surprised but I’m not.

[–]shit-zen-giggles 39 points40 points41 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What surprised me though was the author:

Hanna - men are obsolete - Rosin

The 'men are obsolete' piece was published just 3 months before this one ...

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's stunning to me how not just feminists, but like most SJW groups talk out of both sides of their mouths so much. It's almost a freaking talent.

[–]Uncle_Touchy1987 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I read her obsolete article. She fails at logic and ignoring female nature. Plus a lot of what she said isn’t true today.

[–]Felarhin 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sure, men are obsolete and unnecessary when you are young, educated, high income, and in good health. However, when one of those things goes away, then she'll sing a very different song, with no one there who will listen.

[–]Uncle_Touchy1987 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s a damn good point. They have a skewed idea of when they would need us. Most men are invisible to modern women. Sure enough this author never mentioned infrastructure workers.

Disappointed, but not surprised.

[–]Lucretius 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be honest, I'm amazed something like this ever made so mainstream as slate.com.

"With increased awareness, men, who historically have difficulty framing their lived experiences as abuse, recognize that they were abused.

Following the Penn State scandal, the % of men reporting sexual abuse jumped from 5-14% to 38%."

Im a man and I was raped at 18. I didn't even realize that it was rape until I was 30 this year

[–]WartimeDad 16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was raped in 2007 and couldn’t process it. Was fortunate that a “girlfriend” of the rapist figured it out, and she came forward to talk to me about it.

[–]Far-Reputation7119 16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

By a woman? I’m so sorry, you shouldn’t have been used in that way.

[–]portojohn2020 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes it was by a woman about 4 years older then me. My friends invited her to my apartment party. Woke up with her naked on top of me refusing to let me get up until I had sex with her. I was prepared to not let in but my friends woke up egging it on and I started not being able to breath because she was 3 times bigger then me and laying across my whole body

[–]calvinshobbs 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry Bud

This hits close to home. Sophomore year of high school, I was sexually assaulted in a men's bathroom by a man whose sexual preference was men. I tried to report him to the authorities but, no one believed me. None of the teaching staff, faculty did anything when I went to them. The female principal of our school said to my face that "There is nothing we can do". He never faced charges.

It has been nearly twelve years since the incident and despite going to therapy and getting mental help, the trauma of the event still shows its face at the worst of times.

[–]Flowman 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sorry you had to go through that, bro.

[+]-Soggy-Potato- 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that’s the sad reality of sexual assault

no matter the gender, unless you have some sort of ‘proof’ nothing ever really happens

[–]Educational_Bet_6606 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Something similar happened to me with girls. No one cared either.

[–]ShutupPussy 19 points20 points21 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very surprised this came from Hanna Roisin considering the books she's written.

[–]odysseytree 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That doesn't even include rape of school boys whose stats by gender are hidden and undocumented. I wonder why.

[–]dw87190 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

AT LEAST as often

[–]Starski09 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Raped by two fat slightly older women, once when I was 17 and another when I was 21. Never thought about it much but after reading dozens of stories from women, I could empathize with those that had similar stories.

Women are equally as sexual and violent, men have just been conditioned to sit there and take it because we are "stronger". Sick world we live in.

Previous commentator seems to be a bot.

Used a website to condense the article:

When Men Are Raped

Last year the National Crime Victimization Survey turned up a remarkable statistic.

But no, it wasn’t a mistake, officials told her, although they couldn’t explain the rise beyond guessing that maybe it had something to do with the publicity surrounding former football coach Jerry Sandusky and the Penn State sex abuse scandal.

The experience of men and women is “a lot closer than any of us would expect,” she says.

Of course it doesn't. For years, the FBI defined forcible rape, for data collecting purposes, as “the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.”

When those cases were taken into account, the rates of nonconsensual sexual contact basically equalized, with 1.270 million women and 1.267 million men claiming to be victims of sexual violence.

I have a panic disorder, so TW panic attacks. I deal with it myself, but to this date I’ve never been in a live-in relationship with a girl who would actually allow me to handle it myself. “No no no no no baby, please please please let me help you!”. Did they have any idea what they were doing? No. But no matter how much I’ve yelled at them to fuck off, they never, ever left me alone to handle myself. Wouldn’t allow me to take walks, eat dinner, go to sleep, go to work… when I got shaky, they would get in my face, start touching me, grabbing me, trapping me in closets and bathrooms, refusing to let me leave, refusing to let me do anything that would actually help me, and forcing me to accept their help, which was nothing more than repeatedly saying “Treesbubby I want to help you!” and “you need to calm down right now!” Oh, by the way, the first time I ever fought back, literally pushed someone out of the way of the door, after dealing with this thousands of times for 15 years, I went to jail for 10 months.

For anyone that doesn’t know, there is tons of legal precedence that forcing someone to accept psychological help is considered harassment and assault. Repeatedly touching that person when they’re asking not to be touched is DEFINITELY assault. So if you know someone with a panic disorder and you want to help them, the number one rule to help them is to do what they ask. They know their issues better than you.

The worst is the hundreds of times that I had asked them to leave me alone for periods of 4, 6, even up to 15 hours straight, just burning through my panic attacks with my ability to stop them physically taken away from me… then as I’m literally screaming at them to leave me alone, they start trying to fondle me, take my pants off… “Treesbubby I want to help you!” I would literally throw them off me 5 or 6 times, but like always, the would just keep coming back… I can’t tell you how many times I asked “if I fuck you will you leave me alone?” then cried during the sex, praying to God that I would cum fast just for the opportunity to be able to get some food, take a walk, and actually manage my attack. This happened about once every two weeks usually… hundreds and hundreds of times. And ya, it was pretty damn rare that they would leave me alone afterwards… it hurts being abused by someone who your essence is actively dripping out of.

Haven't read the article yet - do they say or indicate that women can be perpetrators too, and that forced envelopment is also r@pe I wonder.

[–]BoringCisWhiteDude 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The subtitle is "men are often victems, and women are often perpetrators"

[–]AgeofAmnesia 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Old article, still holds true. I grew up being abused by a grandmother, and my mother was aware (I found that out shortly before breaking contact with her). Happened for years, and that side of the family supported the grandmother as harmless. Yeah. Nightmares of what she did were not harmless.

Had it happen in schools, and one time outside of school (drugged and woke up with her on top of me - she later admitted it to a friend who then told me). Legal action options? None. Nobody, and I mean nobody did a thing, and I tried for the better part of a decade to get things heard.

You want to know about rage? Trying to report being raped in school cost me a scholarship and college at all. It cost me part of my early education, it caused nightmares and PTSD that continue to date. What makes it worse? Being told that, as a man, *zero* group or specialized therapy options exist for me, unless I identified as a woman - because women can get help in multiple places. None for men.

So, yeah. After childhood years filled with female on male rape, school years filled with it, high school, and finally early adulthood (raped for my 20th birthday, but lost my virginity probably at age 2, at least from what I remember, because...women have needs).

From my experiences: most women are very comfortable with objectifying men and treating them as such, whatever the age. It's a very poor gamble to trust one, even if they mean well - because it's probably a smoke screen or prelude to yet another attempted rape.

[–]WeEatBabies 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That statistic does not include the lying about taking their birth control pill.

It should and then that statistic would be staggering!

If you don't consent to sex without birth control it's grape!!!! I can't believe I have to explain this to people!

[–]AirSailer 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article only points out that women rape men, not that it needs to be stopped. There is no statement anywhere in that article that actually states that women should be held accountable.

[+]the-4th-survivor -15 points-14 points-13 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've seen people try to say this before and I just don't believe it for multiple reasons. For one thing very few women are big and strong enough to be able to overpower a man and hold him down for sex. For another thing a man has to get and sustain an erection to have sex. If someone tried to rape me, I would get angry or perhaps if they had a knife or a gun I would be scared, and I don't know about you guys but I've never gotten a boner while I was angry or afraid.

On top of that, women are less sexually aggressive than men and can generally get laid consensually whenever they want to so they'd have no reason to rape a man. Lastly, most men aren't considered attractive to women and a significant number of men in America struggle to get relationships and sex. There's just no way I believe men are getting raped as often as women are.

[–]Temporary_Spend_3111 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All a penis requires to be erect is stimulus. Your an individual perhaps your an outliar suffering from a minor form of erectile dysfunction where you need to be "in the mood"

But for the average man thats all it takes.

And non consensual intercourse is rape. It can be being manipulated through coercion. And it can be forced through mischievous means such as black mail.

If you think women arent capable of that and that rape has to be violent and forceful to be truamatic then i have no words for you and believe you are simply not intelligent enough emotionally to empathize with men who are currently to this day still suffering from abuse.

Best example i can give is young boys who are raped by their teachers.

Or sons by their mothers. Such as the one in ohio very recently.

[–]ZouDave 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well...

1 - your ideas about how it takes being physically stronger as the only way rape occurs is archaic, shortsighted, misinformed, and wrong. Drugged, restrained, coerced, forced, multiple attackers, etc.

2 - your ideas about erections only happening or sustaining when aroused is archaic, shortsighted, misinformed, and wrong. There are times when a male body's reaction to stress causes erections. Erections ARE NOT a sign of (only) sexual arousal. And erections ARE NOT implied consent. There are multiple cases of women achieving orgasm while being raped, I PROMISE you that doesn't mean they secretly wanted it. It potentially makes it even more traumatic, which I think would be the case of a male being raped by a female because he had no control over his erection.

3 - your ideas that women aren't as sexually aggressive as men is archaic, misinformed, shortsighted, and wrong. I would say this is analogous to people who think only big dogs are capable of being aggressive, gleefully and willfully overlooking the unceasing aggressive behavior from small yippy dogs because it doesn't scare you as much. Aggression is not a measure of the danger it puts you in, aggression is aggression. I am making a guess that you might think women don't think about or understand their sexual desires as well or often as men...which is very archaic, shortsighted, misinformed, and wrong.

4 - you seem to have completely, I mean COMPLETELY, ignored all the cases of male on male attacks in your synopsis. I promise you that just because a male was raped by another male his trauma isn't lessened. I also promise you that just because the perpetrator was male doesn't mean we should ignore the victimhood of the male victims. This line of thinking is archaic, misinformed, shortsighted, and wrong.

Your willful choosing to not believe facts is dangerous, and I would urge you to think differently about the situation. Nobody is trying to lessen female trauma of rape, people are trying to lift the veil on how men are also affected. It doesn't hurt women to admit men are victims, too.

'Sexual victimization perpetrated by women: Federal data reveal surprising prevalence'

This article examines female sexual perpetration in the U.S. To do so, we analyzed data from four large-scale federal agency surveys conducted independently by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2008 through 2013. We found these data to contradict the common belief that female sexual perpetration is rare. We therefore reviewed the broader literature to identify patterns and provide context, including among high-risk populations such as college students and inmates. We recommend that professionals responding to this problem avoid gender stereotypes that downplay the frequency and impact of female sexual perpetration so as to comprehensively address sexual victimization in all forms.

Scientific American: 'Sexual Victimization by Women Is More Common Than Previously Known':

The results were surprising. For example, the CDC’s nationally representative data revealed that over one year, men and women were equally likely to experience nonconsensual sex, and most male victims reported female perpetrators. Over their lifetime, 79 percent of men who were “made to penetrate” someone else (a form of rape, in the view of most researchers) reported female perpetrators. Likewise, most men who experienced sexual coercion and unwanted sexual contact had female perpetrators.

We also pooled four years of the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data and found that 35 percent of male victims who experienced rape or sexual assault reported at least one female perpetrator. Among those who were raped or sexually assaulted by a woman, 58 percent of male victims and 41 percent of female victims reported that the incident involved a violent attack, meaning the female perpetrator hit, knocked down or otherwise attacked the victim, many of whom reported injuries.

Time Magazine - 'The CDC's Rape Numbers Are Misleading ':

How could that be? After all, very few men in the CDC study were classified as victims of rape: 1.7 percent in their lifetime, and too few for a reliable estimate in the past year. But these numbers refer only to men who have been forced into anal sex or made to perform oral sex on another male. Nearly 7 percent of men, however, reported that at some point in their lives, they were “made to penetrate” another person—usually in reference to vaginal intercourse, receiving oral sex, or performing oral sex on a woman. This was not classified as rape, but as “other sexual violence.”

And now the real surprise: when asked about experiences in the last 12 months, men reported being “made to penetrate”—either by physical force or due to intoxication—at virtually the same rates as women reported rape (both 1.1 percent in 2010, and 1.7 and 1.6 respectively in 2011).

In other words, if being made to penetrate someone was counted as rape—and why shouldn’t it be?—then the headlines could have focused on a truly sensational CDC finding: that women rape men as often as men rape women.

The CDC also reports that men account for over a third of those experiencing another form of sexual violence—“sexual coercion.” That was defined as being pressured into sexual activity by psychological means: lies or false promises, threats to end a relationship or spread negative gossip, or “making repeated requests” for sex and expressing unhappiness at being turned down.

Predictors of Sexual Coercion Against Women and Men: A Multilevel, Multinational Study of University Students

A study by Hines investigating sexual coercion in romantic relationships. It used a sample of 7,667 university students (2,084 men and 5,583 women) from 38 sites around the world. Participants reported their sexual victimisation experiences in the past year of their current or most recent romantic relationships. It found that 2.8% of men and 2.3% of women reported experiencing forced sex in their heterosexual relationships. (Table 1 and 2 on pages 408 and 410 respectively). 22.0% of men and 24.5% of women reported verbal coercion. You can see that the rates for men and women are very, very similar.

For one thing very few women are big and strong enough to be able to overpower a man and hold him down for sex.

Here's a case from a few years ago: women forced her ex-boyfriend to "have sex with her" at machete point. She was eventually sentenced to 20 years... in a mental health facility. Though even that is still surprising, sadly.

If someone tried to rape me, I would get angry or perhaps if they had a knife or a gun I would be scared, and I don't know about you guys but I've never gotten a boner while I was angry or afraid.

Some women get wet and even climax while being raped. You can never be 100% certain how your body will react to these situations.

One time I was in an abusive relationship. The woman who was abusing me came to my door once and punched me in the stomach ten times. I lived in an Apartment at the time and the neighbors eventually saw what was going on and called the police. The police had me locked up for the night. And keep in mind I have a 15 year old son, who was 9 at the time, and, who only has me as a parent. They thankfully let go of me but only after I begged them not to arrest me bc I'm a single parent but only after at least an hour. The next day the woman came back and said that if I don't leave my apartment she'd stab my son, call the cops and then say it was me who killed him. I begged her not to do it, but she ignored I eventually smacked her in the face, and then she called the cops on me and I spent the weekend in jail. Thankfully the police sent my kid to child care for the weekend. I eventually sued the woman who abused me and she went to 6 months in jail for abuse. Also I constantly get reminded that men suffer huge discrimination since I always take my 9 year old to the playground in the weekend and people always tell me to let the mother handle the kids or when I'm walking with my kid people always give me hard looks or something. It really sucks especially knowing that femenism is growing and that my kid might also face the same problems since he's also a male.
