Couple months ago I overheard my mother speaking to someone on the phone and she said she wouldn’t leave me or my brother alone with our little cousin. I don’t remember her reason verbatim but either it had something to do with our family history or the phenomenon between uncles and nieces and/or cousins. Then she said she doesn’t think that we would actually harm are cousin in any way but she wouldn’t take the risk.

I never questioned her about the conversation after the phone call, however, I have an older sister (30 F) and I wonder if she would have the same thought if she was alone with a little boy in our family. I haven’t put much thought into it other than that. It’s still a grey area for me.

I understand there’s a common phenomenon between little girls and older male relatives but I don’t think it should affect non male predators. I don’t think my mother’s approach is right.
