The modern problem of loneliness comes from the process of digitalization of human experience. Because of the profit it is much easier to simulate the process of work or any other activity online rather than offline.

I'll explain with an example. I have two choices to buy food: order it or go get it myself. When I go out for food myself, I have a much better chance of meeting any people at all than if I order food and see only the food deliverer

Now people in general have less practical experience of interaction, which previously led to the emergence of relationships. In a village, all people know each other, since everyone tends to have a common experience with each other, and there are not enough people to know everyone. In the city, the community concept still exists, but it is more limited than in the countryside. However, due to the modern way of life, a person can successfully exist without cooperation, which is why he builds fewer relationships with people. People don’t need to be social to survive nowadays, so there are less social connections overall among people. Because of this people don’t assimilate into mainstream, they have more and more differentiated opinions and personalities. They are less likely to connect with other people, because they don’t share the same experience. This is the reason for mass loneliness and social atomization of modern society.

In this scenario, OLD becomes the only option for single people to find at least someone, since it is easy. OLD is the result of this social atomization, and not its cause. I won't say that OLD is terrible. I met a lot of new people there who changed me for the better. Yes, there are a lot of creepy and strange people, but in reality everything is about the same. Women and men who do not have problems with the number of social connections still tend to get to know offline more than online, as they do not have problems with the lack of interaction with reality, however, the increasing digitalization of real experience brings people more and more into OLD.

I'm not saying OLD is necessarily terrible. OLD works very well for people who are quite experienced in communication and who have a clear understanding of the specific people they are looking for. Such people easily find friends and love there.

The only solution I can offer is to create a better system for finding people for relationships (not only love, but also friendship) than Tinder. We are at the point of no return in relation to digitalization and we will have to solve modern problems with modern solutions.
