These surveys are simply ridiculous. How can they survey half the population about sexism they face, then simply assume that's going to be disproportionate with what the other half faces? How can they claim that girls face serious inequalities while ignoring the violence boys are expected to face? I have no doubt the statistics they found are important, but they are meaningless to the idea of equality because there is nothing to be equal to.

I wouldn't say young people have a good time in general. But, of course, we won't know from reading that report, because they only ask girls.

What's the point of doing this? It doesn't tell us anything.

And this is feminism in microcosm. Let's just assume things are only shitty for women and girls, and let's not even bother making a comparison. But let's use the word 'equality' nonetheless, which is a comparative concept. So let's use a comparative concept, but not use a comparative methodology. That makes sense!

It's like saying that Italians have longer hair, and then only measuring the length of Italians' hair. What's the point? The methodology has no value. Every single figure they cite tells you nothing except that, of the people they surveyed (and here not enough is said about the sampling techniques, which rather raises the suspicion that you have a self-selecting sample), a certain proportion responded thus-and-so. Well? What of it? What does that actually tell you? It tells you that of your sample, this proportion said thus-and-so. And... that's it. There's nothing else one can get from that.

It used to be that there were girls guides and boy scouts. For quite some time in the UK, girls have been allowed (and encouraged) to join the scouts. But boys are still not allowed to join the guides.

You'll note that the report is called 'Equality for Girls' and not just 'Equality for people'.

Yeah I heard this on the radio this morning.

You can call me skeptical if you like but I don't believe for one second that 80% of teenage girls told those conducting the survey that they had been sexually harassed. In fact I'd bet good money that if I was able to check the survey - which I can't because of course there is no link to it and the data and methodology have not been made available - I'd find that the questioners asked whatever leading, suggestive questions they liked then it was them and not the respondents who classified the answers as "sexual harassment" as required.

In the UK, sexual harassment is illegal and has been for 25 years. If 80% of teenagers are genuinely being subjected to this illegal discrimination, where are the literally millions of court cases every year? Why are virtually none of them reporting it? Patriarchy?

Men are also expected to look like those portrayed in the media, but women feel it's ok to complain about how all men are fat, lazy assholes but you'll never hear a man say "why are normal girls so ugly?". Girls deliberately underachieve or hide their academic skills and intellect because they want to attract boys, which will be quickly snatched up by the feminists as proof of oppression, but in reality boys find girls more attractive when they are clever. Girls say they feel responsible for their safety and afraid of sexual harassment, yet will go out and drink multiple cans of beer and a bottle of vodka, leading their boyfriends or male friends to look after them and ensure their safety.

Even though I don't believe these figures to be truthful on any level, I think there is some truth in the issues that are presented here. It's just the lack of regard to sexism towards men and the narrow-minded view that all these issues are purely women related that is so infuriating.

How about asking a guy if they think they're judged on their appearance on a daily basis? I have a feeling that there will be a lot more yes than no, especially in city environments.

Guys have this done to them all the fucking time as well. This isn't a sign of sexism, this is how groups undermine others. When you are disagreeing with someone, or trying to make your opinion more valid than someone else's, you find something about them that is different than you and then use that to "discredit" them.

Fathers, (I'm not not one, so correct me if I'm wrong) have parenting decisions ever been "taken out of your hands" by anyone of the opposite sex simply because you're a man and obviously a female knows better for children.

Or, for myself in a long-term relationship, anything that isn't related to sports or hands-on work, the default position is the woman is smarter (my girlfriend doesn't make me feel this way, but her friends sure as shit do).

Maybe the difference is this: I have confidence in my abilities and my opinions, so fallacious attacks that diminish the validity of what I say have no effect on me. For all the focus that has been put on ensuring girls have self-esteem (yet ignoring boys), they sure as hell seem to be lacking in self-esteem.

So they did a survey only looking at girls and found that only girls face sexism as was the intent of the study.

That actually puts them ahead of academic feminists in that they bothered to do a study at all before presenting their conclusions.

This is what gynocentrism looks like. A blinkered world view that can only see things for whats best for women, but their unconscious or self induced blind spot makes them believe this is what counts as "equality". This I think what needs to be focused on. I think attacking "feminism" is right and proper, but what needs to be emphasised is they can call themselves whatever they like. It doesnt even matter if they don't call themselves feminists at all and just say they are for "equality". They can call themselves a "ham and cheese sandwich" if they want to, the reason for attacking feminism is because we're attacking gynocentrism, not the word feminism, or concept of "equality". If people who self describe as "feminists" want to call themselves that, NO PROBLEM! But you better be willing to prove that you are what you say you are. You believe in equality? Ok, prove it. Show me you understand what equality means.

Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah, and most of them are examples of female privilege enforced by women that men/boys would prefer to see go away. Men paying for dates, men being required to take all of the initiative, approach women first, be far more assertive than her, work long hours to be the provider... these are clear examples of female privilege, and are supported by women/girls far more than by men/boys. Girls get judged for being sexually active? Ok, and what about the flip side when boys are judged for not having enough experience? I know far more women who have told me they rejected a guy for being bad/inexperienced in bed than men who reject women for being too experienced.

I notice that their methodology is rather vaguely laid out.

Basically they asked a group of different-aged girls (it never says how they were selected) a set of questions related to "equality-themed topics" (which are never explained) of importance to todays girls and young women (I'm assuming they mean "of importance to feminists). Most of the interviews were not done in person but online (it never specifies how they did it or what was asked), and the questions were altered depending on the age group (in a way which they do not specify). The best part, of course, being that everything is entirely subjective because for the most part they were only asked about how they "feel", not about things that happened.

The UK is home to some of the most privileged and entitled women in the world. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of the "sexism" they experience is completely imagined. They're trained from birth to see everything as sexism against women, so that's all they see.
