What's beautiful about picture four is... if I'm interpreting this correctly:

The man has his stuff in his lap. Not only that, but he doesn't have his legs spread, in fact, they're crossed tightly enough that they're hitting the pole next to him while his other foot is about an inch away from being parallel with his seat.

There is a backpack in the seat next to him. I assume if it were his, he wouldn't be clinging to his stuff in his lap, and would have just set it all down in the same seat the bag is in. Plenty of room on that seat for his stuff and that bag.

Further, there is room under his seat for a bag, but not room under the seat of the person next to him (support structure.)

The only thing that might indicate that the bag is his is that it's closer to him in the seat - but, given that the woman next to him's ass is hanging over the seat divider into the next seat (#womentakinguptoomuchspaceonthetrain), I'm just going to assume she pushed it away so there'd be more room for her sizable posterior.

So, unless someone can confirm otherwise, I'm going to assume the bag is not his, and in fact belongs to the woman next to him.

So - a man with long legs that stick out a little, even though he's keeping his legs crossed and actually maintaining as small a footprint as possible given his proportions? SHAME HIM FOR TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE!

Girl fat enough that she is sitting in at least two seats, and presumably claimed the second seat entirely by putting her bag in it? SHAME HIM AGAIN ANYWAY FOR TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE!

Common user of public transport here.

In my experience, women tended to be the more common offenders of multi-seat usage. I've seen purses, feet, and shopping bags set on the seats next to them and I have never once thought "oh, it's because she's a woman."

Why is this a gendered thing now? Has feminism run out of things that even marginally resemble a real issue to rant about?
