The PR problem is that some people can see feminism for what it is. It's kind of like the PR problem white nationalism has. Some people aren't falling for the bullshit.

If feminists wonder why they may have an image problem, just look at some of the horrible policies they support. Censorship is totally unacceptable, and that's what they're doing when they try to get the Old Testament labeled as hate speech.

Feminism has an academia problem. The study of feminism does not study feminism, rather it studies movements that actively label themselves feminist (that would be, the first through fourth waves of feminism). This is a fairly large issue, as I'm sure most people would agree that feminism, by the simplest definition of the word used back when the movements first started out, is a fairly good thing. Equality. Fairness. That's good.

Unfortunately, the study of feminism, and since that has been by and large the most consistent bastion of feminism, has been focused on the waves. The waves of misdirection, confusion and anger. All of which was perfectly fine, those reactions are very reasonable towards inequality, but it has forced feminism off a reasonable track, and into a downward spiral of bigotry that it hasn't really recovered from since the second wave, which really destroys any and all attempts at turning modern feminism into a reasonable force of good in the world.

The feminism interview starts at 36:15, for anyone who wants to hear it. It does a great job of showing how disconnected western feminists are from women who are genuinely oppressed.

This lack of critical thinking and perspective was something I encountered a lot when I was involved with feminism. Lots of people didn't actually think about the issues, and instead just blindly repeated what they were taught by other feminists. Even in this interview, the U.K. woman just reads off the usual propaganda of patriarchy and wage gaps, even though she's speaking to women who face much more serious and more genuine issues. But apparently pictures of a naked woman are worse than genocide and slavery.

I don't think feminism has a PR problem at all. Actually, they usually receive positive coverage (at least in the U.S.), and people who disagree with them are usually called sexist and misogynist. Like I mentioned before, I think they have a problem with perspective. Many feminists, especially those in leadership and academic roles, like to focus on their problems exclusively. So they lose all perspective of the world around them, and can't understand that their actions are hurting other people. Or they come up with some vague reason why it's justified.

If feminist groups did more to support actual equality, they'd get way more support from the general public. I don't necessarily mean that feminists should fight for men's issues, although that would be nice. But, like the interview showed, women in other countries face significant inequality, and feminists could do a lot more good by supporting those women instead of complaining about being objectified because a man looked at them.

The middle eastern feminist doesn't have it as bad as she claims, either. They're oppressed but so are the men in their societies. These are countries where, as in Saudi Arabia, you can be beheaded for a simple burglary. These are countries where alcohol is prohibited. Everything is prohibited. And the women in those countries are as much the proponents of that culture as any men there, if not more so. Just as feminists brought about Prohibition in America, just as women all over the world are far more religious than their male counterparts, who are they really kidding? Feminism was never the answer to anything.
