I'm a MRA but I don't see how a boy that was sending explicit messages to someone who didn't want them and he didn't stop and then felt the need to commit suicide over being asked to stop is a men's rights issue.

So. Kid is sexually harassing a girl with unwanted texts. The civil thing to do would be for her parents to call his parents and allow his parents to deal with it on the caveat that if they don't, the police will get involved. But maybe this kid's parents aren't that great. Either way, there's nothing wrong with the police stopping by and saying "Hey. Dumbshit. Cut it out or we're going to have to deal with it."

And then the kid blows his brains out with a shotgun. What was this kid so terrified of that he'd do that? It seems like he was given a fair second chance. If he stopped, and left the girl alone, everything would be fine. Could he not stop? There is a bunch of shit being left out, and I'd be willing to bet that it has something to do with his parents.

This is not an equal rights issue. Just stop thinking about the genders of the victims for a second. If person 1 is sending messages to person 2 that makes person 2 uncomfortable, then person 2 is technically being harassed. Person 2 has the right to tell the police and the police have the right to go to Person 1 and tell him to stop. It was never mentioned that they were going to make him a registered sex offender and his life will be ruined henceforth. He probably killed himself because the police frightened him and his mother overreacted. That is neither the police's or the mother's fault. He definitely had some other issues or mental problems that caused him to do this.

TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS AND CLEAR SOME STUFF UP:

1) Charlie Booth was the 16 year old who killed himself. 2) The shotgun was a gift for his 15th birthday. 3) Charlie went to private military school and assault training and shooting practice were normal in that environment. He also went hunting with his dad on occasion.

ALL THAT SAID

4) Charlie wrote texts and tweets that would alternate between being happy and being dark and morbid. Since he did well in school, I think nobody thought it was a big deal. 5) The girl asked him to stop texting, he kept texting, and then she called police.
6) Charlie wasn't being charged with anything, although he was explicitly told by police not to send any more texts to the girl. 7) His parents got pissed (reasonably) and took his phone. 8) 3 hours later, Charlie Booth committed suicide.

This isn't a men's rights issue-it's a mental health issue. Both men and women are susceptible to mental illness and suicidal levels of depression.

The girl didn't bully him into suicide. She just didn't want dick pics and when he kept harassing her she called the cops. That's not unreasonable. It wasn't her first reaction. Her first action was asking him to stop.

Sorry guys, but this is just a sad story about a mentally unstable teenage boy who got obsessed with a girl, made bad choices, snapped when his phone got taken ,and offed himself. Is it sad? Yes. But if it was your mother/sister/daughter getting dick pics and asking someone to stop and they didn't, wouldn't you suggest the same thing? (Calling the police)

I'm on mobile, so if you want sources feel free to go look around like I did (I thought finding something more reliable that theantifeminist would be a good idea, since feminism just means promoting women's rights, hence their name essentially implies anti women's rights, which is ironic in a subreddit about men's rights).

A piece of advice (to a number of people on this thread)-if you want to tell other posters not to assume something, you shouldn't either. Either do the work and find a source that backs your side of the story and discredits theirs before you call somebody out, or treat other posters with civility and respect that their assumptions could be just as legitimate as your own.

I think this incident is worthy of attention as a boy killed himself rather than speak to someone about his situation. Perhaps he didn't believe he could speak to anyone, or he was not close enough to anyone to trust them with his concerns.

Wow. Some of you people have really strange ideas. Look...

In the current technological age, expressing sexual or romantic affection in a text is completely normal. It's no different to writing love poems in the 17th century, or writing a love song meant to woo a person.
It may be crass to express sexual desire in a text message. But bear in mind that no-one outside of the boy, the girl, the police, and the parents, have seen these texts. They could've been pretty vanilla for all we know.
The age of the girl has not been given. For all we know she could've been older. This presumption that she was younger than his is nothing but a baseless accusation, and smacks of the same judgemental "reasoning" that we see when feminists accuse men of being sex pests or "creepy".
It is entirely possible that the boy was in love and she spurned his advances. If the kid was in an emotional state, and was not thinking clearly, his mother could've quiet easily been the straw that broke the camels back.

That the normal way to have handled this would be one parent cal the other and talked to the boy and say "Hey don't do this, girls don't like that " - and it ended there - Treated him as a immature boy that is not an adult which what he was

but The Feminist way that all male sexuality ( even by young boys) is a crime Instead have the police involved putting a huge scare in to him ( as if he was an adult man sending the texts) then the feminist mother screaming at him and probably saying horrible things.

Now you see the Feminists lying here and in other posts of the " underage girl" trying to paint the boy as a pedophile or an older man -- He was the about the same age as the girl .

The Feminists highlight the " harassment" - we have no idea how long or what was sent -- It could have been an afternoon and trying to paint it as a Man that is doing it rather then a young boy, a young boy who does not know that talking explicitly about sex does not get girls to want to have sex with you "

And the mother going off on the boy, probably with all the hyperbole of feminist man hating culture . Treating a young boy trying to find a way to have his first sexual encounter as a middle age man .

TL;DR -- Young boy fumbles at his attempts at sexuality - Modern Feminism treats him like he is an adult man who has committed a major sex crime -- Boy Kills himself -- The Feminists are ecstatic

We covered this story the other week. We don't know what the content or context of the texts were. Without that we can't say if the boy was a creep or the girl fickle and dishonest. We do know the boy wasn't charged, but the police had a chat with his parents. We have indications that the boys mother flipped out, but even that's not clear. What we do know, by empirical evidence, is that most people on reddit assume the worst of the boy and the best of the girl.

That last part is the real story here.

This reminds me of the whole thing about a kid committing suicide because they were called gay in school (which instead of just calling it bullying, as if no straight person has ever been called a fag, instead he is presumed to surely have been gay if he was called that, and it becomes a homophobic attack).

The kid did it to himself. No sane person, even an emotionally unstable teenager, kills themselves over one incident about sexting where he ended up with a warning. Something else surely must have been going on.
