Would it be possible to get a quick source on the 20% of sexually active girls 12-18 are trying to get pregnant? I just want to have my facts straight and that sounds a bit far fetched to me.
[Edited to add sexually active]
[–]Jex117 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'd like a source on it just for something I can keep in my pocket, but it doesn't sound far fetched to me.
I come from a poor family who moved a lot. I went to 4 elementary schools and 5 high schools (almost every highschool in my city back then) - changing schools almost every year caused a lot of problems for me in school and in life, but I learned a lot because of it. Observed the full spectrum of teachers & teaching styles, the differences in cliques and fads between schools, differences in curriculum, learned a lot about making new friends and fitting into a new crowd. Seeing how great some teachers can be, and how shitty other teachers can be, was my biggest take away.
Anywho. A common trend I noticed among loner girls is the goal of getting pregnant. Some girls (never the popular girls, not the hot girls, or the smart girls - each one I can remember was the 'less pretty mediocre' kind of girl) thought it would cement a relationship, but for the most part, the main reason I got was that "my baby will love me." I'm not talking like 1 or 2 girls here either. I'm talking several at each highschool I went to.

Same here. That sounds a bit... odd.
Though come to think of it, I would never be willing to do a "one time fling" with my ex GF because I'm next to certain that at some point she was conspiring to try to fulfil both her wish to desperately keep me in her life as well as her wish to become a mother.

That's fucked. That shit scares me so bad
[–]RubixCubeDonut 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No source. Just here to point out that you're reading it wrong: it explicitly said that 20% of sexually active girls 12-18 are trying to get pregnant.
Actually, never mind. Decided to go to the Other Discussions posting that's 5 years older and there was some discussion there about it. This post is claiming it's "a "study" the Tyra Banks show did", and provided a link to this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/27716567#27716567
Hope that helps.

Hey thank you for that link and also for correcting me. I've edited my comment to address that

At least few teenagers get pregnant to receive benefits or housing; that it’s an “easy way out” so they don’t have to get a job and live on benefits. It is even said that their parents are silent partners to such abusive practices.
[–]HappyHurtzlickn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That sounds too much like data... sources!

Imagine if this was being taught to high school men.
[–]Istalriblaka -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
I mean there is abstinence-only sex ed. Different reasons, same result.
Edit: I meant religious views and preventing the above would both lead to abstinence-only sex ed. Also, I do not support abstinence-only sex ed. I'm just pointing out how terrible it is that the only way to safely have sex with a woman is to not do it at all.
[–]LastManSittingg 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
same result.
Nope. Abstinence "education" doesn't work. The kids still have sex, they just lie about it more. It's actually dangerous for boys because it increases the risk of false allegations (it wasn't consensual, he raped me!).
[–]mymraccount_ac 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In fact abstinence only and the driving forces behind it may underlie one of the primary reasons women falsely accuse men of rape to such a large degree, which is that they do it to cover up consensual sex they would be punished by their peers and family for.

Yeah highest rate of teen pregnancy in the Western world. It's working great!

If you are talking about comprehensive sex education:

I think if a lot of these things, along with the things mentioned in the OP, were taught to children, the status quo that female-on-male sexual abuse is a nonissue would be corrected in only a couple of generations
Most of the marginalization comes from ignorant ideas like
Granted, a lot of the marginalization comes from a lack of empathy, but at least the part that comes from ignorance can be rectified with better sexual education

If argument against pedophilia is that the boys liked it.. well they might want to try using that argument when a 50 year old guy is "seduced" by a 12 year old girl.
[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Can we get a source on this? As an image, it isn't that useful as a link to provide information to others skeptical of men's issues.
[–]Bustin_Jeiber_ 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I personally think its crazy that if a woman stole your sperm and got pregnant from it she could file for child support, and also can file it towards a sperm donor
[–]Istalriblaka 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Throw statutory rape in there. And even just plain rape.
[–]fuckyoubanhappymods 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Heck, just the fact that you can be forced to pay child support at all seems nuts to me. Women can easily get an abortion or morning after pills and if they really want the baby, they can keep it and take care of it on their own.
This just seems like war on men
[–]adamdavid85 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's more the fact that child support was created far before most women had many opportunities for work outside the home, and when a far larger percentage of children were born within a marriage. Child support is in fact a sterling example of a relic from the so-called patriarchal society of the past, and yet I don't see any major feminist organisations looking to overturn or amend it. In fact, they actively fight against any reforms that would recognize women as capable of supporting themselves. Funny, huh?
[–]Sarin_G_Series 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
... the mother has up to one year to abandon the child, "NO QUESTIONS ASKED," which can happen after the father is ordered to pay child support.
Do the support payments get forwarded to the adopting family, or does the mother still receive them?
[–]JJJJ4242 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
The payments increase by 30% and continue to go to the mother.
[–]Sarin_G_Series 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
In what State? That's pretty far-fetched.
[–]JJJJ4242 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The fact that you couldn't tell that I was being sarcastic really shows how unequal the legal system is.
[–]Sarin_G_Series 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You never know here; could be sarcasm, could be bitterness, justified or not.

The bolded one is absolutely insane. You’re a victim of statutory rape? Now you have to pay child support at the age of 15. WHAT??
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The concept of child support is not about providing for the child. It's just another facet of power the state knows it can abuse to exercise control over people.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I love how underage boys who were legally raped still have to pay child support. Of all the things on this list, I think that is the most disgusting.
[–]Rivsmama 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree

No.
[–]Mythandros 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That is terrifying. The laws are unbelievably one sided. How did we get to this point? Our society has fallen so far. It's kinda depressing.
[–]TerriChris[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's a reason fathers do not attend divorce court fight....men have no rights.
It's not reported by the media, because fathers are the victims

“In 20 States, once a child support order is put in place, it cannot be overturn, regardless of paternity”

Should also include how being responsible for child support can impact you in other ways (being denied visas, bankruptcy filings, etc.)
[–]mensmod 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is great, but like others said - sources would be really helpful. It works well within this group, but if we wanted to share it with friends/family/others, we would need the supporting evidence.
See link above with case law

You can chalk this whole thing down to -We get you really care for your child, but you're a man so fuck you.

Good lord. I didnt sign up for that...
[–]Nezborn02 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hmm and men have more rights than men?
[–]vicious_armbar3 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link
I'm surprised that more men don't resort to violence. Especially young ones that have nothing to lose.
[–]mikesteane 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, it is a testament to men's forbearance that so few women are murdered.
[–]No_More_Candy -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
More than are already violent?
[–]tmone 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Gtfo
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
More than blacks are already violent? (racist)
More than women are already violent? (sexist)
More than Gays are already violent? (homophobic)
More than Muslims are already violent? (Islamaphobic)
If you wouldn't do it for them, why is it ok to paint all men as violent?
[–]Celda 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
At least some of this is false. I personally looked up the safe haven laws and most only give a few days or up to a month.
I can confirm that many of the statements are true, but definitely some are false. And without a source, it has no credibility given that I know it is lying at some points.
[–]Rivsmama 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This makes me sick if it's true. I'm sure, as with most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I know in deleware, 50/50 custody arrangements are very common and the parent who makes less can file for support. I doubt things are this bleak, but I know men often get screwed over in the family Court system and it's not right. Please know there are women out there who support you!
