This is so true. I used to think my value was based on my servitude to men and my looks. Now I only dress and doll myself up for me. I found out that I feel very sexy, classy and put together when I dress for myself. I also tend to pick out different things, the female gaze is vastly different than the male gaze, I found. More sophisticated and mature.
I sometimes also don’t give a fuck, and it’s wonderfully liberating. I’m still laughing at the look on the face of my neighbour when he borrowed some contact lenses fluid from me the other day for his girlfriend. I just dgaf and opened the door in my very comfy, very warm, very ugly and very bulky chill outfit. He looked so confused, lol. They’re not used to us not giving a fck and not performing. It really messes with their mind.

I live to see Regina George memes. I love that women are reclaiming traditional feminine icons that were used as villians and now using them in memes/internet culture because we understand that it was mysogny making us view women who were feminine as evil and making us "not like other girls". Movies like High school musical did the same trope 🤢

I just rewatched High School Musical two nights ago! The movie totally sets up Gabriella to be the "not like other girls" girl and for the audience to hate on Sharpay. Sharpay is confident with a great voice!

I hated that show as a teenager and never understood why. It made sense after FDS.
I always liked the female "villains" actually and some of them were a lot more logical.
Also their backstory is often violently sexualized and then these male producers and scriptwriters want us to give surprised pikachu face that they want revenge.

Compelte agree, sharpay was the femme fatale trope who is knocked down a peg or two beause the patriarchy hates confident and outspoken women. Even her ending story of not going to Yale was just the cherry on top of all of her blows, even after her own brother betrayed her and Sharpay forgave him.

I'm loving that we're finally getting good female anti-heroes. The lead in I Care A Lot is a deeply flawed and fabulous character. It came out this year and features the same actress who did Gone Girl.

Then why do I still consistently get male attention? I do basically everything I've been told not to do (I'm masculine to the point of being read as male 95% of the time, not particularly warm, nurturing, or bubbly, have a postpartum belly that I don't obsess over getting rid of, am open and very opinionated about radfem topics) and I still have to fight 'em off with a bat.
It's almost like they really DON'T care if women age, don't shave their legs, are over 120 lbs, have confidence. 🤔

Do you mind sharing some of what your wardrobe looks like? I love the look. I'm single so I love making the change, it is liberating. Faded the sides of my hair with a bit on top that I put in a super short pony tail, it is pretty masculine looking, for a woman, and I am super happy. I couldn't stop rubbing my head the first couple of weeks, lol. I maybe want the top cut to a 4 but any hairdresser is super hesitant. It is pretty frustrating, because they make me doubt myself, slightly.
My mom had sent me a picture of me when I was in HS and I had my hair to my mid back. My hair is thick and curly so I was shocked when I saw that, like I couldn't believe I put up with that, even if I honestly did not like that look on myself even back then. I've always wanted short hair, but it took a damn long time to get what I wanted with something as simple as that. Any boyfriend I had borderline went into cardiac arrest if I cut it to shoulder length or even half an inch above, literally gasping or almost yelling, "what did you do?!".

I wear men's clothing mostly, tee shirts and jeans. I just don't like the way a lot of women's clothing fits. It's like it was designed to make you feel as insecure as possible. It's not like it's boring or low effort though, I bring in a lot of other stuff I like: vintage sweaters, flannels, boots, etc. My hair isn't very short, it's the length of your average pixie cut but I get it done at a barber. I let it grow out a few months until I feel it gets too unruly, and weirdly enough people seem to think I'm male when it's on the longer side.
Other than that, I find my body language does most of the work. I put my hands in my pockets, speak directly, act like I know more than I do.
Guys I've dated have never cared. Some even think it's kind of cool. It was really worth the years I took fighting my parents to let me do it (age 16 or 17 I purposely put gum in my hair so they'd let me cut it off lmao).

Same here, for the wardrobe, but for whatever reason, the hair has been the boundary, in my experience. They get accustomed to it, but the shock at me choosing a different hairstyle is pretty telling.

The best thing my mom ever said to accidentally inspire me to succeed was, "be careful about being too smart because men find it unattractive". I'm a lesbian and I teach STEM.
For the straight/bi ladies: If a man is turned off by your intelligence or success he isn't emotionally mature for a relationship.
