There are most likely methodological problems with the study.

I have seen a study like this before but I'm only aware of one. IIRC they asked college kids if they'd have sex with a girl so long as there weren't any consequences to their actions.

One interpretation of that does sound very rapey, but they don't make it clear in the question that she isn't consenting. It could easily be interpreted to mean that she doesn't have baggage or STDs or that she doesn't expect a long term commitment.

The question "would you have sex with someone" almost begs the assumption that it is consensual. If someone asked you if you'd have sex with Susie from science class, saying yes just implies that you find her attractive and worth your time. Not that you're going to corner and rape her later that day.

Another good point is that male sexuality is responsive to their partners. Meaning they want to know that their partners like it and want to have sex with them.

Shoving your dick into a dry hole with some blood isn't what most men want to do. If anything it's emasculating because it means you're not "man enough" to get a woman to like you. Not to mention that it's painful (including for the man).

IIRC is was bullshit questioning, just like the 5 in 1 women get raped stats they pull out of their ass. Questions they asked were things like "Would you have sex with a woman who had a glass of wine" and counted everyone who said yes as a potential rapist.

It is bogus. It was a phone survey in which only something like 24% of people replied. The people which replied were more likely to have been abused than those which didn't reply (It's a well known phenomenon where people which have an affirmative answer to a question are more likely to respond, remember remember the name of it).

Also if you read the survey they expand the meaning of sexual assault. They ask the question "Have you had a drink or some drugs then had sex" and if you a yes then you were raped. This counted as an entire 3rd of the cases in the CDC study.

In addition many of the cases they counted as rape or sexual assault, the "victims" didn't actually count the act as sexual assault.

If you use the same statistical massaging the feminists do to male victims you will get very similar results. Men and women have been sexually assaulted at roughly the same rates. If you look at the CDC study, if you dig into the tables and results you will see in most cases, with physical and sexual abuse men and women suffer at roughly equal levels. If you want the CDC study I can find it for you.

Well, 1 in 3 men could get away with it. Proving a rape is actually quite difficult. That 1 in 3 don't rape should tell you something about the character of men.

I know of one study with that finding, I'm not sure if it's the same one and I can't find it to link.

The question asked was "If you could rape with out ANY consequences would you?"

This is much more of a question on moral foundations than on willingness to victimize women. If I could rape, but there where NO CONSEQUENCES, I would jump on that in a heart beat. NO Consequences, not none for me, but none what so ever. No victim, no trauma no damage, no risks of std/pregnancy, no violation, no harm....but I get to have kinky fun however I want. Sign me up.

Rape is bad because it leaves a traumatized victim behind. If you take away the victim, the consequences, the reason rape is bad......it stops being bad.

The question is much more one of what is your moral foundation. Is rape bad because it does harm, or is it bad because authority told you it was bad?

1 in 3 men think rape is bad because of the damage it does to the victim. Take away the damage, the consequences, and it's no longer bad.

The study I found has been talked about in Cosmopolitan, which leads to this study : Violence and gender. But you have to be a member to view it? Also Cosmo is a trash magazine. It writes about empowering women, but then writes an article about what not to use to decorate an apartment in order to attract a man. Take it with a grain of salt.

Anyway the study has been conducted with 73 men (not the largest population, let's agree on this).

The researchers conclude that men who say they would force sexual intercourse but not rape (despite the two being one and the same) may "not perceive his actions as rape and may even view the forced intercourse as an achievement." The study also looked at the men's attitudes toward women, showing that men who are more hostile toward women and have more "callous sexual attitudes" are more likely to say outright that they could commit rape.

So I assume they haven't been informed of what a sexual assault consists of. Edit : like you said, the description of the act was unclear, even in that new study.

A Washington Examiner found problems with that study itself.

A National Review also found problems with the 73 men surveyed.

Now y'all do whatever you want with this information. Yes, ~~men are mostly rapists~~, (actually The American Journal of health conducted a study saying they redefined what rape was AND included sexual assault in jail, which brings men at an equal rate for rape + I only striked my comment for transparency). Still, men are mostly rapists (they rape men as well), but does 1 man outta 3 would rape? I would think... not. The study was limited and I read somewhere only 2 studies have been conducted. Plus, they were made on university campuses in the US. I don't know if the context is important here.

To that girl, I would answer : I understand your position, I understand the fears, but it's also important to get the facts straight. How the studies were conducted was problematic. Coming to a conclusion using a small population (73 men in one, 83 in another) is false and contributes to fear even more.

You'd think, but other surveys have found between 22% to 57% of men in the US have committed a sexual assault, so it's probably not far off. IIRC it averages about at about 10% actually are rapists.

In college and community samples, rates of self-reported rape perpetration range from 6% to 15%, and rates of sexual assault perpetration range from 22% to 57% Abbey et al., 1998; Calhoun, Bernat, Clum, & Frame, 1997; Koss et al., 1987; Muehlenhard & Linton, 1987; Rapaport & Burkhart, 1984; Senn, Desmarais, Verberg, & Wood, 2000

IIRC, the survey have set up questions for scenarios where the woman did not want to have sex but was coerced. They specifically avoided using the word rape in it, as that's going to trigger an automatic 'no' in a lot of guys.

It turns out that forcing unwilling women to have sex with them in some settings was not seen as rape, and was therefore okay.

I saw a video about this study. I’ll try to find it. From what I remember they were using a 1 to 5 likelihood scale where 1 to 4 was taken as a positive response. Problem with this is, when asked “would you verbally coerce somebody into sex?” the “very likely” response is treated the same as “unlikely”.

It was also a really small study, with the offer of extra credit for completing it. Some people were obviously taking the piss, responding “highly unlikely” to every question apart from “would you rape somebody?” which they responded “highly likely” to.

The source appears to be Denying Rape but Endorsing Forceful Intercourse: Exploring Differences Among Responders. I notice immediately that the authors don't know the difference between "forceful" and "forcible". Looking further I find this is based on a survey of male college students (who always tell the truth on anonymous surveys) when asked

part of the attraction to sexual aggression scale (Malamuth 1989a,b). This scale measures self-reported likelihood to engage in a variety of sexual behaviors ‘‘if nobody would ever know and there wouldn’t be any consequences’’ for the participants. The behaviors that were included were heterosexual intercourse, forcing a female to do something sexual she does not want to, and rape. .... Data of the participants’ intentions to commit sexual assault are displayed...

That is all you get on what the questions asked, but if you read Malamuth 1989a you will not find any questions about intention to do anything, so you can conclude this study is bullshit and lies and stop reading at this point.
