Chanced upon this tweet this morning. There is no such thing as 50/50 in a relationship. Working women are still expected to care for the children and the house while working full-time.

I don't think there's a solution to this that doesn't involve opting out of having kids. Most men will just not come to the party on this matter. I think if your man doesn't do housework (properly) and on his own accord, doesn't look after you when you're sick, doesn't look after your pets like they were children, don't do it! It will never even be close to 50/50.

I hope Mercedes’ husband sees this and realizes he needs to step up. Letting the child scream and make popcorn while she does her job in the evening was beyond. I’m worried that she’s overstretched and her final thoughts involve more work for her (school) and working with him to start a new practice (will he be an equal partner in that or will she be doing what he finds beneath him there too) and another child. Something has to change because right now, she’d be better off day to day single and with a nanny or daycare.

Mercedes' response: u/Rachel Hi Rachel, My office is the kitchen island, so naturally food is being made while I work. I was thankful he was popping the popcorn for our daughter, so I didn't have to. He is actually vacuuming now between clients! Yes, I have more house work under my belt. Partially because when I work, I am on the phone so others can't see I'm multitasking. He is on video, so he has to close his door. When I am unable to care for Mila, he will move elsewhere and apologize to his clients for her in the background or being outside his office to watch her. He is an overworked husband trying to make ends meet. Thanks for the comment and reading!

There's a new movement for 'equality' but not for women, for men. Now women have to work full-time and also take on all the original work they were already doing full-time. It's impossible and no wonder many women can't do it. It again moves us out of the workplace and leaves us financially vulnerable.
