Female privilege is having the option to wear both trousers or a skirt; to wear either a suit or a dress or the option to wear heels or shoes.
[–]icecoldmax 165 points166 points167 points 6 years ago (45 children) | Copy Link
Now that it’s getting colder, as a guy I’m not looking forward to going back to jeans. Like what other option is there for winter casual-wear for guys other than jeans or chinos?
[–]Gozie5 101 points102 points103 points 6 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
And if you try to wear something too crazy, you'd get kicked out of the event for breaking the dress code (happens to me too often)
[–]TofBoss 51 points52 points53 points 6 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
Like what, parachute pants?
[–]Gozie5 83 points84 points85 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
I wore boots (Timberland) but they were the dark brown type, the bouncer said to me "no combat boots". So I'm pretty much restricted to shoes.
The women however, were wearing doc Martin's, heels, shoes, platforms etc etc
[–][deleted] 56 points57 points58 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lmfao no combat boots? They're Timberlands. I would have laughed in his face.

The only combat timberlands have seen is in Chicago.

Which is exactly the type of combat the event is trying to avoid with their dress code.

[–]why_did_i_say_that_ 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
party? Dude said the bouncer, which implies nightclub; nothing about a party.
[+]UnFocusMyChi -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Private parties can have bouncers and door guys too. Friend of mine does these type of gigs professionally.

[–]UnFocusMyChi 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Private parties have the same type of things going on. The ones my friend works at are typically publicly accessible for people in "scenes." One of the more affluent members will throw a party to have people NOT show up at whatever club they're mad at and also for some kind of rank thing. Same types of dress code though. No stocking caps, no boots, no rags, no basketball shoes, no visible underwear... He's had to toss guys for it. It's a thing.

Hah yeah I’m totally not aware of a lot of fashion items, I just love wearing cotton shorts so much that when it gets cold and I have to put on jeans to go out to the shops it’s like “sigh I was so comfortable a second ago”
And it’s not even that the jeans aren’t comfy. I just feel like I wish I could get that shorts feeling in winter. If it were socially acceptable I’d wear long johns plus shorts.

also as a slight aside do you know why society seems to turn a blind eye to "male bashing" but loses its shit if you do the same to women.
its because we know and accept male bashing is bullshit but with women "the truth hurts"
call men "stupid" and everyone knows its not true hence not offensive, call women "stupid" and you are evil because "It might be true"
Men can only be mocked bashed because we are so fucking competent and capable, women cant be bashed because they are thought to be genuinely incompetent and incapable.

Actually, the real problem is looking at people as anything other than individuals. Males don't share the same conciousness, just like women. The idea that "men can take it" is just as damaging as any other generalisation.

She didn't actually blame men in this tweet. Now because she's the sort to go on about male privilege we can probably guess she blames it on men, but look at the actual words here. No blame is actually assigned to anyone.
[–]gidonfire 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
You're trying to be technically right, but it's just too much of a stretch for me.
[–]VsAcesoVer 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
They are right. Not even just technically. “There’s a societal standard that benefits men” is not “men did this to me.” Y’all need to chill.
[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
So women are responsible for "male privilege"? That's a new take on things I've never heard before.
[–]VsAcesoVer 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yep, people can equally perpetuate things like privilege/sexism/racism. It's not just shrill screeching.
[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
lol, black people perpetuate racism against blacks? This is definitely a microscopic nuance you're talking about and it's going to be a no from me dog.
[–]VsAcesoVer 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, black people can support policies that systemically disadvantage black people. That's what racism is. It's not hating people, it's about large-scale systems/policies. You're right, its not a bite-sized concept.
[–]Elhaym 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
There are societal standards that hurt and benefit men, and there are societal standards that hurt and benefit women. Not every standard that hurts men must come from women and vice versa. While I find it likely this woman blames men for this particular standard, she did not blame them in this tweet despite everyone acting like she did. Let's not make up stuff; is that too high of a standard?
[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Then blame it on toxic femininity and not male privilege. Call it what it is. Is that too high of a standard?
[–]Elhaym 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
"Male privilege" isn't inherently blaming something but an acknowledgement. Look I tend to view people very unfavorably when they only look at the world in terms of "privilege" but it's definitely a fact that it exists in different forms for different reasons. This lady was saying men don't have to worry about how they dress as much as women and that's absolutely true. Do you dispute it? Of course not. You just dispute the cause which this lady did not bring up.
[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
This isn't an advantage caused by men. It's a disadvantage caused by women.
E: There's a serious problem with male privilege. Ascribing toxic feminism to male privilege dilutes the fight against male privilege. Look at this thread for example. I think most people define male privilege they way I do. And using the term in things like this just makes the fight for actual equality harder. Guys take this post as an attack on them. Look at how often this gets reposted and upvoted to r/all. It's dumb to use that term in this situation, no matter how nuanced you want to make the definition.
[–]Elhaym 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Toxic femininity can cause male privilege. There's nothing contradictory about that. Toxic masculinity causes female privilege all the time.
[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
conflating the two is not useful at all. you will not be met with a lot of understanding if you continue to call things male privilege that are actually toxic femininity. That's just not taking responsibility.
You think you're just logical, but you're also wrong.
[–]Elhaym 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
The privilege is a result, not a cause. This isn't conflating the two at all. That's what you're not understanding here. This is male privilege caused by toxic femininity. Of course if you focus just on the result and not the cause you're going to be skirting the real issue. But it's still important to know the result.

OP /u/fegiviveg is a reposting karma bot account. You will likely be able to find this post here. If karmadecay doesn't turn up anything, try googling it. Another common tactic is to reupload images so they get a new url that doesn't pop up on karmadecay. Easiest way to find that is google the title under site:imgur.com. But, this is almost guaranteed to be a repost/x-post of some kind. If you are wondering "Who cares, fake internet points", then please see my wiki.

I'm sure I've seen the comment before somewhere I can't remember but this is absolutely ridiculous and he's 100% right the only people that care going to be other women don't lie negative comments going to be from other women and you know why because when a man sees a woman and she has that nice dress on he's going to notice that nice dress and the next time he sees you he's going to hope you're wearing the same dress because he likes that dress. Like how often do you see even in Media we're guys will be talking about "oh remember that red dress you were oh my God that dress was amazing" hell there are guys who will watch a movie multiple times just to see one scene with one woman in it in a particular dress. Like come on we want women to wear cute shit it's other women that don't want other women wearing cute shit because it makes them look bad.

It seems to me like Lalo missed the point— I don’t think she’s saying that ‘men will criticize women for wearing the same thing twice’. Instead it sounds like she’s saying ‘women will he criticized for wearing the same thing twice and men will not be criticized for the same thing’, which I can attest to personally is something no guy I’ve ever encountered experiences (excepting maybe from his mom and sisters and SO, and even then he gets to a point of ‘meh’)

That's still male privilege even if the guy was right
[–]twist-17 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link
How is that male privilege when the issue is literally being caused by females and has fuck all to do with males?
[+][deleted] -24 points-23 points-22 points 6 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link
Because it's the males that are privileged. If women get less gigs than men at a company and the recruiters are all women, it's still male privilege no matter who is instigating it.
[–]twist-17 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link
So we’re just gonna blame men for everything, even if women are clearly at fault. Got it.
[+][deleted] -19 points-18 points-17 points 6 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link
No one is blaming anyone for anything. If men are put to lesser standards than women, no matter by who, men are privileged in that instance; by definition.
[–]endlessbishop 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
So basically what you’re saying is that women are giving men privilege that they do not want, need or really give a shit about.
but you are oppressing your own sex and giving us shit about it and making out it’s our fault?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
I never said it was men's fault for being privileged but they are. It's systemic, it's not "women" who give men privilege, they just are. In this particular instance, and assuming the guy in the tweet is right, women are instigating it but it's not like women came up with clothing standards and social norms. Also men do judge women on how they dress (Slutty, prude, etc.); if you don't that's good for you but I'm talking big picture. In less trivial instances:
Hiring practices, men are more likely to get a call back
More likely to get physically harmed because of IPV
Twice as likely to die from heart attacks because of misinformation about women heart attack symptoms
The overwhelming majority of rape victims are women
Men are 40% more likely to be promoted
Women make up 20% of of the US Congress despite being 50% of the population
Women are made to spend more on mortgages, cars and other expenses
Men are much more likely to interrupt women in conversations than the other way around
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Just because in an incredibly mundane instance of male privilege, it's not men who are instigating it (Something the original tweet never implied btw), doesn't make it any less male privilege.
[–]Selrisitai 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
I don't think men came up with clothing norms, either. Do you think men chose to make women softer, smaller and weaker?

I never said they did, everyone ITT is arguing against a strawman of what they think male privilege is.
[–]Selrisitai 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
🤔 So in other words, men have privilege because of genetics, history and the fortuitous tumbling of the universe?
I notice how, just like in evolution debates (oh, that's not evolution) and feminism debates (oh, that's not really feminism) et cetera, you eventually get to a point where the arguments come right back around to "null." So it was men's fault, it was men's fault, it was men's fault. . . and now it's. . . no one's fault? O.K., so then there's no problem?
[–]RogerStormzy 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That's because privilege is a retarded concept from every conceivable angle. If you're being discriminated against, that's awful. But don't act like the people not being discriminated against are sitting in some plush ivory tower being waited upon hand and foot.
Privilege doesn't exist except for wealth and influence buying special treatment. Not being treated like shit isn't privilege. It's just not being treated like shit. If other people are being treated like shit, that's discrimination.
Privilege is idiotic and should be shouted down every time some SJW brings it up.
[–]fen90der 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The main reason people take exception to the concept of 'male privilege' is because of all the instances of female privilege that people like to ignore.
Men more likely to die at work, male suicide being more frequent, boys being more likely to be abused than girls, girls get better exam results and everyone makes out this is a good thing, the fake wage gap, divorces. Etc etc.
You people all know and ignore all of that to make your point, so your point is flawed from the start.
I think most rational people see that the world doesn't give anyone (except rich people) a leg-up for any reason, i.e. there is no privilege other than wealth.
[–]wotanii -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yes. is that so hard to understand?
giving us shit about it and making out it’s our fault?
no one is doing that (at least not in the OP)
[–]twist-17 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you agree that women are the cause of the fabricated “male privilege” in this specific scenario and they’re the ones perpetuating it, why are you even bringing men into it at all? This entire post is making it out to be like men are the bad guys in this scenario when in reality it has absolutely nothing to do with us at all, because literally the only people that would ever care if a woman wore the same dress twice is other women. Even in your example of female staff only hiring men, it’s women causing the hardship on other women and you’re still calling it “male privilege” even though, again, men aren’t the problem there. Men aren’t the ones assigning this “lesser standard” in either one of these situations, women are establishing a higher one against their own gender and oppressing themselves.
Seems like an awful lot like men are trying to be blamed for it when you label it as “male privilege” instead of calling it what it really is: female toxicity.
If what you want to argue is that “male privilege” doesn’t have a negative connotation then you’re just completely oblivious and ignorant of the whole concept.

“if” the guy was right? lmao fuck off
[–]Spectickles91 -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This isn’t entirely untrue in social settings, but women are definitely looked down upon by their male counterparts and superiors in the work place if they wear the same dress twice within a week, typically.
[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
BOTH are sexist bullshit, there are straight men who are vain and petty just as there are women who don't give a fuck.
This dumb ass echo chamber will make sure y'all never get laid again.
