Makes sense. In the view of women, money makes a man attractive. His ability to provide and acquire resources is what women are biologically wired to look for. With women who have sudden wealth, their current man is no longer attractive. Women marry up. So the sudden wealth now puts her in a higher social economic tier, in her mind. And she thinks she deserves a higher tier man.

We see this regularly with women who have higher salary jobs. The statistics say these marriages have a higher chance of divorce than when the husband is the breadwinner. You also see women with high salaries frequently complain they can’t “find any suitable men.” Of course that’s because their pool of men they would even give a chance to is so small. They are only interested in men in their level or higher. So if a woman makes $150k a year, the amount of men that make more than that are what? Top 5%? So 95% of all men are not attractive.

A clearer description should be "lottery statistics support theory that far more women than men are gold diggers".

Its LITERALLY that.

The evidence shows that men who get rich dont change their relationships much.

But women who do suddenly dump their partners as soon as they no longer have to rely on them as cash machines.

The way he paints women, “leaving unsatisfactory partners” is rubbish and biased in assuming the men are subpar. Seems that winning the lottery exposes the transitory (more likely to leave a SO and initiate divorce) and hypergamous tendency of females that stay in relationships out of reliance on men for economic support and quickly leave them for other more attractive options when they no longer need that support. Correct me if I’m wrong but the fairer sex could be more accurately labeled the more fickle sex. “She’s not yours, it’s just your turn.”

This just reminds me of a story I heard recently. A woman was living at home with her husband or fiancee or boyfriend (I forget which one, but pretty sure it was husband) for free. She didn't pay for anything at all but she spent $25 a week or so on the lottery. She won the lottery and promised to share it with her partner and I believe they took the annuity option instead of the lump sum option. She gave him a couple thousand dollars in unpaid rent essentially and then left him and kept the rest of the money without even paying the full amount of unpaid rent. I remember this story being in an AITA format and on a podcast and the verdict was that she should keep the money, but pay back the rent. I thought that was crazy because that money essentially should belong to the guy in the relationship since from what it sounded like, his money was being used to buy the lottery. At the very least I thought he should be entitled to half of the payout.

Edit: There was no mention of how bad their relationship was in this story as far as I remember. Considering the guy wasn't screaming about getting half the money after she left, I imagine it wasn't terrible.

No, according to the study their long term divorce rate stays the same. It's their SHORT term divorce rate that increases.

So basically, the women that want to divorce will do so faster if they win the lottery. But the overall likelihood of divorce stays the same.

I think same happens when women get promotion. The risk of divorce increases by 50% if wife gets promotion. No such correlation exists if husband is promoted.

Interesting, for men it's when their partners become very ill. 21% of men choose to end a marriage when their wife falls ill, compared to only 3% of women leaving after their husband falls ill.
