I'm married to my last FWB. Today is our 10th anniversary. (Yay!)

We were FWB for a number of years before we made it official. The reason I didn't want a relationship in the beginning was because I had a kid in her teens, and I didn't want to date anyone till she moved out. So for 4 years I didn't date anyone at all, no sex, nothing. Then after she graduated HS and slowly developed some independence, I dipped my toes back in the dating pool. I met my partner and we entered into an FWB relationship. After 3 years he wanted it to be more serious, but she was still living at home so I said no. Then she moved out and he wanted it to be more serious, but I had never lived alone so I said no. After a year of me living alone (and 2 breakups spanning a couple of months each), we ended up living together. And a few years after that, we married.

I’ve only ever had one fwb years ago when I was single and the reason I didn’t want to be in a relationship with him was because I didn’t see him as relationship material. And I didn’t see the need to bother dating someone I don’t see myself being with for long.

Reasons why he wasn’t relationship material in my eyes: didn’t have his life together.

Your partner is a reflection of you and I didn’t want people to assume I was also a hot mess simply because of him.

He was a good person don’t get me wrong but not the kind of person I would want to share my life with

I'm a woman. The reason I don't want a LTR with my FWB (and vice versa) is because he has BPD. My last ex had it, and I know I can't handle the emotional instability in a LTR. For friends it's fine.

For men though, the biggest reason is not meeting the physical attraction bar for a LTR.

The last FWB I had gave the best BJs. In return, I'd give her the deep, stimulating conversations that she enjoyed.

The reason why I didn't want to elevate to relationship was because she was in severe debt with a low paying job. Plus, she had some mental issues. Being in a serious relationship with her would have put a drain on me, financially and mentally.

Romantic feelings are messy.

We have been friends so long; I don't want to mess that up. Additionally, sometimes I just want cunnilingus without blowing the guy in return. Reciprocity isn't always required, and we can just blow off stress together better without romance.
