The 'dads are blundering idiots who don't know the first thing about childcare' trope needs to crawl back into the awful sitcoms it came from and die.

It's one of those stereotypes that's shitty for everyone regardless of sex. Men most obviously because duh, who wants to be treated like an incompetent fool? But women too because then there's societal pressure for them to do it all because 'he'll just mess it up anyway'.

With default 50/50 becoming the norm these sexists better pay attention to who their customers are. Eventually half will be fathers.

My nephew has a 1 year old daughter and his mother in law told him that she would never trust men to watch children. This was over one step in the living room the child, who was just learning to walk, had to navigate.

I raised my son alone from 9mo -3 yrs. I just softly said, "Yes men are capable of watching children". She didn't respond.

I experience this at schools, dental office, Dr. Office, therapists, anywhere i have to take my kids. They always call or talk to mom 1st. I've gone off on nurses, doctors, teachers, principals, therapists, etc about it time and again. And call them out on their gender discrimination. I don't hold back.

Simple solution....don't use that dentist. Actually tell THE DENTIST why you are leaving. Maybe he will hire the right people. If you find out that he thinks that way to, then why use his/her service?
