I do not want yo appeared biased or jaded, however, after reading the countless stories in which the women took this route without justification I’m inclined to say just do it. What if the tables were turned? Something that you’ll come to learn is that the woman you are divorcing is not the woman you married. Once the divorce proceedings begin there is no way to predict how bad she’ll take it, just know she will not take it well. You’re assuming she will move out and that she’ll start paying her own bills and allow you equal time with your kids? Besides, she’s on medication and has already threaten the kids, it’s your duty to do what is in the best interest of your kids and that means keeping them safe. In general, fathers have an uphill battle in the courts, taking the first steps in your case may give you the best possible shot. There’s a lot more to take into consideration but you should at least speak with a local attorney to understand your specific situation. Many attorneys will offer a free initial consultation or for a reduced fee, this can range from $200-$400. Look into any self-help centers in your area. You can also look into paralegal services to help you file. The better you understand and know your rights and local laws, the better you’ll be suited to manage your case without paying an attorney to research and explain everything for you. Divorce takes time, more so when kids are involved, and finances go up in smoke in the split of a second. The higher the conflict between your and your spouse the more expensive it will be. Filing for a protective order will definitely increase the level of conflict but don’t assume that she will not take this route herself (even if she has no proof) and then you’ll be left to defend against all the allegations. File the protective order and get a lawyer. I understand financial times may be tough, but this is the most important thing in your life right now to not fuck up. Good luck and stay strong.

Look for a pro bona attorney. Maybe call attorneys and maybe they can pint you in the right direction.

She said that if I have her taken out of the home shes going to commit suicide

Not your problem. If she's saying/threatening this then you need to get the fuck away ASAP. Your kids are top priority... she might go off the deep end and take them with her. Get her away from them.

You need to file the Order of Protection immediately! Remove yourself and the children if necessary. Do it under false pretenses if necessary. “Hey, we’re just to get some ice cream” and find somewhere else to stay for the next couple days.

If she’s threatened suicide, and recently been involuntarily committed, I hate to be a fear monger, but it’s a short jump to murder-suicide.

You need to protect your children. That’s your number one priority, not her feelings or well being right now. Don’t drag your feet on this.

It depends on what state you are in. Yes, you can file without a lawyer, in NC.

This is not a safe environment for the kids. If you don’t have family, friends or even a co worker to help. Have you tried calling all the churches and begging them?
