It's common to hear people say how men should use their privilege to help women and hold other men accountable. Especially when it comes to dangerous situations where men have to protect women from violent bad men. The interesting thing here is that a lot of feminists view the world through a systemic lens, like most people who are a part of oppressed groups. But for some reason all of a sudden they don't view the world through a systemic lens when it comes to protecting women. They think the world would be a much better place if the good men just grew a pair and stood up to the bad men.
For example, when it comes to "men are trash" or "men are bad" type of posts, to be honest, I don't have any problem with this, If women and girls just want to vent and get their frustration out because of their bad experiences with men that's fine. But anyway, they always explain why men replying with "not all men" is a bad thing. Because they are not criticizing men as individuals. They are criticizing men as a group. This is fine.
But again when it comes to protecting women, people all of a sudden think the solution lies in the hands of individual good men, which is ironic when you think about it. When it comes to "the criticizing men as a group" narrative. This is the one time they don't view the world through a systemic lens. If I save a woman from a bad man, that doesn't change anything about the oppression of women. Women would still get abused, raped, and kill around the world. Nothing would change because I'm a "hero" who saves women, anybody could've done that. Heck, I could be a misogynistic idiot, and still protect a woman in a situation where their life is in danger. Because the actions of good individuals won't systemic issues right guys?
And when it comes to the accountability. I notice there isn't much accountability for women when it comes to being the perfect allies or heroes. It's usually up to men to fix the issues of society for some reason (I wonder why 🤔). For example, I see a lot of posts about how black men deal with racism and sexism and how white women can play a role in their oppression. Usually, some of the replies are very combative surprisingly. The responses are usually white men are the main reasons why black men were discriminated against, and had violence done to them, and white men were the ones who made stereotypes of black men. And they say any focus on white women is misogyny because they are blaming women for problems men created.
I'm not saying they are wrong here. But I do find it interesting when the topic is switched to race. White women don't feel the need to hold other white people accountable for their bad actions lol. And think that black men should just confront white men. Because white men are the main perpetrators of their issues and problems. I wonder how they would react if a woman was talking about their bad experience with men to a black man. And the black man's response was don't blame your issues on me. Because white people are the reasons for your problem. It was white people who created this white patriarchal, heterosexual society. So you are blaming black men for the issues white people created.
In conclusion, do you guys think the expectations for men to be the moral compass of society is more higher compared to women? Maybe I'm wrong here.
