I had the kids almost 100% so their wasn't alimony, ex has never paid a penny. I paid her almost 400/month for almost 2 yrs.. while taking care of the kids.. It got better in that I stopped paying her.. she tried to then get more alimony and child support when she didn't even have the kids.. Now I don't pay her crap, and she sometimes sees the kids..

About 70 percent in VA. After taxes I made 8k and paid 5500 for Alimony and child support. Men still get screwed in divorce court. My ex still does not work 6 years later. Now I pay like 4k a month which is finally ending in 6 months. Best advice always do a prenup if your a man.

Started at CS = 15% SS = 10% of gross in Georgia. Two kids, chained for 13 years. SS for 5 years with 3 more to go. Making more $ and bonus now and looking for a bigger gig by start of next year. Can’t even change LinkedIn profile for fear will come after me. She has a new job too, so it could even out. CS = 13%, SS = 8%.

Guideline supoin CA is having me pay about 48% of post-tad in child and spousal support. I'm told that once an agreement is settled, it tends to be lower.

None, but that really isn't true. I continue to pay for Healthcare, and other benefits for my kids. One has aged out at 26 last March. One more to go for a few more years. There was no formal agreement.

12 year marriage, no kids. She didn't work, I did, and earn a lot. The percentage is a little hard to state. I have a base salary + bonus + I traditionally worked a TON of extra shifts. She got 40% of my base == 28% of my 'historical average' take home. This puts her in the top 85-90 percentile for the USA 🤷‍♂️

I also am 'mostly' stuck having to continue to work extra shifts. She got 3.5 years = 42 months of spousal support. I'm only 0.75yrs in. But I'm going to stop working extra shifts Sumer 2024. IF I stay on budget will pay her off early Summer 2025.

So with child support each state calculates it differently but most states have a standardized formula, I believe CS usually caps out around 20% of your income and there’s things like in-kind support that can be deducted from it depending on your location and final order.

Where I work, “alimony” is referred to as spousal support and is awarded on an extremely limited basis. Usually only in the case of a legally-proven “disadvantaged spouse” and only for the amount of time it would take for them to complete their education and/or re-enter the workforce to the extent that they could feasibly support their own household. There’s a worksheet that is filled out by the person paying spousal support that details their monthly expenses (literally down to groceries, monthly budgeting for home repairs, etc). Once the expenses are on the table for each household, the judge reviews and makes a decision as to the amount of spousal support awarded. It’s based both off of income and what the paying spouse can reasonably afford. I’ve only seen one case where the husband was made to pay an excessive amount of spousal that required him to budget down to the dollar. Usually it doesn’t swing that way but again, if you’re in a different state or country (or you come up with a settlement that prevents the court from intervening), YMMV

So the ex got 6k in alimony, and 0 child support.. The kids are primarily with me, so child support FYI would have been cheaper. Settlement agreement explicitly states she is not now or ever to be financially responsible for kids... isn't that peachy? Could probably get child support anyway.. but her parents pay most of her bills.. she doesn't make much...

I paid 40% for the first two years after my divorce for CS/SS. Now I'm much lower, about 12% for just CS. Those first two years were rough, but I filed for divorce knowing there are levels of survival I was willing to accept to get away from her.

16 year marriage. 50/50 custody.

8% for lifetime alimony. 12% for child support. i pay health insurance.

And that’s pretax. taxes take another 30% leaving me with 50 cents per dollar.
