I usually say thank you or just give a ''thank you'' nod. Most people I've come across, both men and women, tend to do the same. There are the occasional rude individuals but I haven't noticed it being gendered. Not to say that it's unlikely that this guy has had this experience with mostly women but it's also a possibility that he's more focused on the women who don't thank him more so than the men.

If someone does stuff for you, you should appreciate them.

Eh, yes and no. If someone does something nice or thoughtful for you, you should appreciate the gesture. However, if someone is constantly doing things for you, maybe even things you don't want or need, and they act like they're extra deserving of your time and gratitude, does that person deserve appreciation? If they're only doing those things with the expectation that you're supposed to reciprocate said kindness and attention, are they really doing those things for your benefit or for theirs?

A bad man does something "good" then feels entitled to a thank you

A terrible man does something "good" then makes a reddit post complaining about how they weren't thanked

Many women worry that the guy holding the door, is the kind of psycho that will go home and type an 8 page manifesto about how women don’t say thank you anymore.

Many other women do say thank.

Many say thank you, get hit on, and immediately regret their actions.

Many would gladly open their own door to not have to deal with the whiny people that don’t like how they handled it. Since opening a door is literally the least you can do.
