They also ignore half of science. Apparently, doctors, veterinarians and biologists, biochemists etc are not actually in science. They must be making statues or songs.

As someone in the IT industry, here's my take: Men on the whole are less inclined to make their career decisions based on what others may think of them because a lifetime of being valued merely for economic output has left them numb to everything else. If you were a teenager getting into IT back in the early days, and someone called you a nerd, it didn't really matter at all because such insults rarely hold weight when you know deep down that society would happily discard you when you're not profitable enough. Our economic output is drilled into us as important above all, we're encoded to be drones, and you aren't going to give a sh*t about a sprained wrist when you're being loaded feet-first into a woodchipper.

The whole IT industry was painted as a nest for greasy pizza-faced virgin loners for years, the butt of every corny joke on TV. Then, something changed, suddenly we had Silicon Valley, suddenly billionaires and start-ups, suddenly there's an app for everything, and everybody's clamouring to spend $1500 on a glass rectangle with a fruit icon etched in the back. The fat greasy nerd stereotype is replaced by one of unfathomable success, because now it's the techies making bank.

Here's the thing though, there's never been any restrictions in the developed Western world for women studying IT for as long as the field has existed, one only needs to look at history, and how much this industry depends on the works of great women like Grace Hopper and Hedy Lamarr, both of whom would be well over 100 years old if alive today, and there's been a concentrated effort to get women into IT for more than 2 decades now because quite literally every IT company out there is sh*t-scared at being labelled a "boys club". Women have always had the option to go into IT, but weren't desensitised like men to the negative connotations and stereotypes inherent to the field. The only reason we're seeing this revolt is because the industry at large has turned into a money-printer, with 7 out of 10 of the companies with the world's largest market caps being in IT.

Had we remained in our basements, had tech itself not become so intertwined with daily life, had Silicon Valley not become the new Billionaire's Row, NOBODY would be pushing for more women in IT, just as there's literally no push for more female sanitation workers, female brick-layers, or any other job that's still bound to unfair stereotypes of uncleanliness and lower class. We got shit on for following our passions and now we're getting shit on again by the same f*cking clowns because THEY missed out by their OWN volition.

Is it a good thing that's male-dominated? (STEM Subjects and Careers, politics, CEOs, some sports) Lets push to get more women involved.

Is it a good thing that's female-dominated? (Most other academic subjects, HR, fashion/beauty, childcare and teaching, being a full-time parent) No problems here.

Is it a bad thing that's male dominated? (Imprisonment, homelessness, war, dangerous jobs) Lets ignore it or make it all about women (1 in 4 homeless are women, women are the primary victims of war etc) or make it individual men's own fault

Is it a bad thing that's female-dominated? (Sexual harassment, domestic abuse, rpe, workplace discrimination) All men and boys must apologise and do more to stop this.

I've noticed that these big scary tyrannical patriarchs often cater to women citizens rather than men; sort of a caring father-daughter archetype relation. People tend to empathize more with a financially struggling woman as opposed to a man in the same scenario. They'd envision the bigger risks a woman might face during homelessness and so on, thus have a bigger drive to push women into higher paying fields.

Granted, this theory is not the entire explanation on this subject.

There's a push for women in STEM because feminism is determined to force the outcome they want, regardless of social realities, biological realities, or anything else. The outcome in this case is 50%+ participation by women in all professions deemed socially and/or financially meaningful for Western civilization. That much makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is the lack of push to get more men into female-dominated professions. If I was a young cis het man I'd stay well away from anything involving STEM. Not only are you entering in a very competitive field, you're entering a job market where 50%+ of roles are being dog-eared for everyone but you.

Women dominate all academic fields except for STEM (and only don't dominate there because medicine is arbitrarily excluded from STEM). They are going after STEM because women must dominate everywhere.

People don't care about men, but care very much about women.

Political Pressure. The last thing White Men in power need is for Feminist organizations to come after them for "not doing enough"
Feminists believe; without any supporting evidence whatsoever.....the reason why there are relatively few Females in STEM is because they are being shut out...despite the decades of policy that ensures that they are prioritized for advancement in STEM
No one wants to believe that maybe it's simply a case of Women/Girls not being as interested in STEM as Men/Boys.

Vague definitions are one of the core doctrines in feminist peer reviewed surveys. STEM is one of these examples (and many Others for example the confusion of sexual harrasment vs sexual assault). If it was honest, women would dominate these studies too, but it doesn't fit the patriarchy narrative. Unfortunately, most people only read headlines and don't understand the mathematical concepts of statistics.

If the feminist institutions pushing for those measures were honest, their claim would sound something like:

"now that the men have done the dirty job of building the foundations, surviving the early ruthless competition and made the industry flourish, now we want women to enter it and take some profits".

It doesn't sound too good...better to talk about equal representation, which apparently is only important when an industry has become glamorous and lucrative.

Easy answer, capitalism. Capitalism is always in crisis. therefore, capitalism needs narratives that keep the image that works the way it tells others, that with hard work, everyone can get everything. STEM jobs can be quite profitable if women are more working in that sphere, the bourgeoisie can tell others that everything is fine, and feminists like that and support capitalism even more.
