Brethren: my wife left me in May, fairly brutally. She had an affair for a year+ and decided to leave my son and I (weeks before graduation) to move across the country to her lover. We have a house, with both our names on the deed. The mortgage is only under my name due to her bad credit (she also ran up $30k in credit card debt. Honestly I'm glad she's gone). There are no dates for the house sale in our divorce agreement which was finalized in Sept., only that it would be sold at some point. When we parted in May, I said that I would try to sell the house in October. It's an old house and October was far too soon and it's taking way more work than expected. In October I said I wanted to sell in March. I just got a new job, so it's not going to happen in March. Too busy with the new job as it is very demanding. Lots of painting and repairs to do. I know she is salivating on the house sale as she doesn't have a job.

I do want to sell the house for financial and emotional reasons. But I want the timing to be on my terms. The question is what recourse could she pursue to make me sell the house sooner? Does she have any legal means to make me sell ASAP? Does she have any power or can I stay in the house indefinitely? I tend to think that negotiating outside of legal proceedings would benefit us both.
