Curious… Why will you always see a 10 (woman) hanging with, friends or best friends with other 10’s, 9’s and 8.5’s... 8-ish hanging with 7’s or even a decent 6, and 5 below hanging together? I’ve never seen a mix of numbers in a group

Lookism, how you look determines who is willing to be your friend and this starts pretty much as soon as you start school. I know people don't like to believe it, but all our social hierarchies are built around physical appearance. From our friends, to our jobs, to our romantic partners, our looks play a big part in all of it.

Halo effect. Look at any of them on their own and you're likely not to rate them the same. They're also likely to have similar style to their friends which will be to your taste or not.

A group of girls will usually tend to have similar opinions about making efforts to look more beautiful. That's the FSM at work. We tend to sort ourselves into groups that don't irritate each other by being too try hard or not trying hard enough.

Could it partially be makeup? Makeup and fashion is a common interest that women may bond over, so maybe groups who're more into it form.

We all prefer attractive faces in the sense that we like symmetry etc. But there's also a phenomenon called homogamy where we look for partners similar to us and in general homophily where we prefer people similar to us. Maybe it's not exactly attractiveness level, but more like looking for people with similar facial traits etc? You know how common that trope is that you go somewhere with your best friend and people assume you're siblings, I think that is probably due to this phenomenon. And it may cause the attractiveness to sorta match bc if you look similar you're similarly attractive. Also, when you're friends for a long time, your interests and mannerisms may start to match, so you might have similar posture, way of laughing, style of charisma, your face may morph slightly towards expressions you commonly form, your fashion style might become more similar even if you have different tastes you may recommend each other the same stores etc. and over time get a bit closer in taste.
